@cweickhmann The only CO2 emissions in aviation we should be worried about are the private jets that are taxis for rich individuals. Fuck those guys.
The rest of the commercial airlines are saving us CO2 emissions because they're way more environmentally efficient than all those passenger groups individually driving cars to their destinations. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the CO2 produced per person per mile is an order of magnitude less for commercial passenger jets than it is for gasoline automobiles.
But more importantly, we should strive to improve efficiency, not reduce supply. Reducing supply of something so essential as air travel just drives up prices and exacerbates income inequality far more than it reduces demand.
@cweickhmann There's already a major pilot shortage that leads to people getting stranded during the holidays.
Fewer pilots is not a good thing.
@freemo From what I understand, that's the "summary" part of "summary judgement". A summary dismissal can mean they didn't even look at the merits of the case, because the judgement is based on something more procedural (like not showing up).
@freemo From what I understand, if you just don't show up, you're likely to get a summary judgement against you.
Now, at that point the plaintiff would have to spend even more money to try to enforce that, but still.
@dominicvfx @carnage4life I *am* the marketing department for my self-published video games and my consulting company.
Before that, I was an executive in a boardroom weighing in on marketing matters.
I'm certainly far from an expert, but I do have some experience here.
@freemo From what I understand, there are entire law firms that make their living sending bogus legal threats to people to take down reviews. Most folks don't lawyer up like me... they just fold. And once you delete a seller review on Amazon, it's permanent. You can't re-post or edit. So, these firms sell subscription packages to sellers. "Have a bad review? Let us know, we'll send a scary threat."
It's scum work, but there are apparently plenty of lawyers willing to abuse the law to make money 🤷♂️
@freemo Oh no, I know my 1A jurisprudence. I was very careful not to make any false statements of fact.
You should see the response I wrote their lawyer before they sued me proper. I tore him a new one about how meritless the threat was. I ended with something along the lines of "Is this really what you went to law school for?"
In hindsight, that may be why they went through with the lawsuit, lol.
@freemo It was a seller review in this case, not a product review, but yeah.
@freemo It was an expensive item and they marked it as shipped in the system, but didn't give me a tracking number. When I asked for one, they cancelled the order.
So, I basically just posted that, mentioned how it was suspicious, and told others to look out for a possible scam.
@freemo Yup, I got served and everything.
@freemo I had to pay a lawyer to file a motion to dismiss. It was a meritless lawsuit meant to intimidate me, so after we filed that, they gave up.
@freemo Don't trust the reviews on Amazon. Recently had a seller sue me to take down a bad review. Amazon didn't give a shit.
So, they're openly allowing their reviews to be gamed by litigious scammers now.
@carnage4life @dominicvfx Yeah, that's the problem. Any movie without a marketing budget can't even get their foot in the door of the public's attention span because we're so oversaturated with ads from the major studios. Smaller groups can't compete with those budgets.
Modern marketing has turned "Great products sell themselves" into an archaism.
@dominicvfx @carnage4life If a product is good enough, it sells itself. Marketing exists to convince us to buy the stuff that's not good enough to sell itself. And in the information age, many terrible products proliferate *entirely* on marketing while many great products can't even break into the market because the upstarts can't compete with the big boys' multi-million-dollar marketing campaigns, even when their product is objectively better.
Modern marketing is little more than a thumb on the scale of a well-functioning free market.
@cweickhmann I wish we had the necessary rail infrastructure on this side of the pond for that to be feasible...
But the other issue is raising the cost of fuel also raises the entry barrier for new pilots to learn, especially lower-income ones. With an ongoing pilot shortage, that's not a good idea.
@ThinkingSapien And everyone will mistake it for a goth steampunk accessory.
@jvagle I love how, on the left, it explicitly says "we furnish everything" and then goes on to immediately contradict itself.
@bookworm No, "Days Gone".
