@loudermilk It's not about supporting "unrestricted speech". It's about supporting the same level of free speech for *everyone*, even if you don't like the message.

If speech is only free when the majority finds the message acceptable, then it isn't free at all.

@carnage4life At least as long as they indiscriminately trawl for data, yeah, that seems inevitable.

I'm hoping this pushes us faster into better-curated datasets, both for quality and consent.

@loudermilk They supported the Klan back in the day. This isn't new. They support the liberties of everyone, and that's a good thing.

contrapoint; anticapitalist rambling

@nazgul I think this gets the root cause analysis wrong on the cotton gin -> slavery thing. The cotton gin itself did not cause people to do anything; it enabled what they wanted to do anyway. The *cause* of the increased slavery was... slavers.

It's important to differentiate, because in a less fucked up world, we could have had the happy "and then everyone worked less" story in reality. Any time-saving invention can result in either "less work" or "more production". The only reason we didn't get "less work" is because we never do that: our society is fundamentally set up to prefer scaling production up whenever possible, instead of just producing the same things with less work, and it's also fundamentally set up to require everyone to work full-time.

*That* is what we need to fix. Making humans do things that could be automated, just for the sake of having them employed, isn't a solution. It's just turning the fine adjustment knobs on the "exactly how shit are things" panel.

(To be clear, this is not to imply that AI is good at everything people are currently slapping it on.)

@Wolven The search integration is a good point. That was a truly foolish venture from the get-go.

@Wolven How so? They have a full popup about how error-prone it is on your first use and every use after that has a disclaimer directly underneath the prompt bar (pictured).

I haven't seen any marketing that claims the LLMs are factually sound either, but to be fair, I do tend to avoid marketing when I can.

@Wolven The tool itself is covered in that same warning.

At this point, there's only two types of people still looking for facts out of an LLM:
(1) journalists and influencers fishing for failure to post on social media
(2) the kind of people who ignore warnings to not drink bleach

@carnage4life Yeah, but that disproportionately affects people who have little-to-no control over the causes of climate change...

@interfluidity In the sense that he'd rather encourage the brutal and inhumane violence rather than advocate for its end?

@bishop I agree that they're wrong about Trump's free speech argument.

But, that said, disagreeing with the content of your message isn't incongruent with attempting to defend his speech rights.

We should all be free to criticize others (unless we're indicted and such criticism puts public officials under threat of serious harm).

@sebastianschroeder It's not censorship. It's an exercise of their free speech right to disassociate with you.

@freemo The point is, there are enough variations that people can't be put neatly into categories. That's why, as a community, we decided to include them under the umbrella term "queer" to include them.

@freemo It's not, though. They mean different things. Bisexual is attraction to the two ends of the gender spectrum. Pansexual is attraction to the entire spectrum.

@freemo Right, I wasn't saying attraction to automobiles was included in pansexuality; just attraction to more than "two sexes".

Attraction to automobiles is called "mechanophilia".

@freemo You might want to google the term "pansexual" because it explicitly rejects that binary that you're trying to enforce.

What do you call people who are only attracted to androgynous agender folks who aren't part of the gender binary?

@freemo Sure there are. There are people who are attracted to automobiles, and there are furries and there are folks who don't care about gender but only get off from domination fantasies. It's a wide weird world out there, and you can't fit everyone neatly into a box.

@freemo The whole point of the Q is to cover sexual orientations other than the main three (like the pansexuals and the literal tree huggers).

It has utility as an inclusive modifier.

@freemo @AmpBenzScientist I wish I had that option. Amazon doesn't allow for review updates for seller reviews.

@Wolven The weakness of every computer algorithm ever written:

Garbage in = Garbage out
