It breaks my heart to see people thinking that copyright is going to help them, and that making knowledge more accessible, universal, and shareable is going to hurt them.

This is more dystopian than most dark fiction i've read.

@jxf Their quality control also allows sellers to file lawsuits against customers for posting bad reviews, so...

Why the hell would they sue Boeing directly? If anything, they should sue the airline, who should then sue Boeing if it's their fault.

But the media has convinced everyone it's Boeing's fault before the investigation has hardly started and now everyone just assumes that's right.

@NPR Still trying to make a horse race out of a coked-up frontrunner?

@drahardja By that logic, you're currently enjoying an electric slave version of the pony express.

@christowski Why is a header image that important for an article? The writing is what matters. The image is just window dressing.

I'll take a well-written article with crappy AI images over clickbait with a custom photo any day.

Because they're not complete idiots like some of their customers.

@ThinkingSapien She needs to learn that getting fired for stupid opinions is half the fun of having stupid opinions.

@strypey True censorship is bad. But what you're calling censorship is just another exercise of free speech that ought to be protected.

@strypey The difference between the two is that government can force you to do something, at threat of jail or violence.

All the "cancel mobs" can do is criticize and threaten to take their business elsewhere (which is their free speech right).

@strypey Any government forcing them to moderate (or not to moderate) would absolutely violate their free speech rights.

But public pressure (or "cancel mobs") is just more free speech. They can choose to bow to it or not, as their own free speech.

Tonight at 10pm PT, the California Science Center will start live streaming as they raise and install the External Fuel Tank onto Space Shuttle Endeavor!

This will be the only Space Shuttle on display in its launch (vertical) configuration with ET and side-boosters! #space #losangeles

@RnDanger @cc587 I have some domain knowledge (I fly smaller planes and check every bolt before I fly each time). I know it doesn't apply 1:1 to the big jets, but it does apply to some extent.

I'm not saying it isn't Boeing's fault. I'm saying we should wait for the opinion of the expert investigators before laying blame.

@strypey I hadn't heard of it before. It doesn't matter here, where our free speech protections are robust.

@strypey Lmao, that's such nonsense. You have a right to speech, not amplification, and especially not amplification with a megaphone owned by someone else. You can still hand out pamphlets or give speeches. You can even create your own website and audience.

But you don't have a free speech right to a Facebook account, and nobody is violating your rights by asking you to leave their property.

@jamesmarshall @georgetakei No, it's not. It was built by a human and it is prompted by a human.

Does art have to be enjoyed by others? Can't the artist be their own audience? If someone prompts an AI and receives a picture for their own appreciation and enjoyment, how is that not art?

More importantly, there are many algorithmic music artists that produce songs that do have a human audience. They're guided far more by a random number generator than by a human hand, yet their output is enjoyed as art.

There are many other examples of procedurally-generated art. That humans created these wondrous tools seems to be more than enough to consider their output to be art.
