@joelmartinez Right, but at that scale, individual engineers shouldn't be responsible for those timelines. Even in that case, something like SCRUM with flexible, short-term targets serves them better.
But that requires competent enough management to properly translate the long-term goals into short-term sprints, and then translate actual progress back into the larger plan.
@freemo Oh, no worries; I figured you've probably been pretty busy.
It just seems to come up a lot with Twitter expats quoting Eugen's thread about it.
I do think it limits somewhat the maximum draw of the community... but what I'm learning is that that may be by design.
@freemo Thanks for thinking it through. I'm regularly gladdened that I stumbled into this server instead of another.
@anosou Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to affect follower feeds, just Local and Federated feeds. Followers still see unlisted replies in their feeds.
@mikerose As an apothecary owner, you must decide how much you're willing to *sacrifice* for success, dealing with the unintended consequences of your actions along the way.
@joelmartinez 100% agree with this. Individual engineers/artists should have *targets* not *deadlines*.
The only time deadlines are appropriate is when you want fast over good.
@chancerydaily I do wonder how much of it is the platform vs the audience.
Most of my triggers on the birdsite came from my local politicians picking culture war fights and their defenders.
@chancerydaily Well, he put this up on the greater web, and I’ve seen at least one oldbie who said we all need to read it: https://www.hughrundle.net/home-invasion/
@KlasfeldReports "Acquisition of a stake"? Didn't they already own that stake and just roll it over when Musk took it private?
@gpowerf Idk, maybe it's because I haven't managed a team in a while, but it feels like the "let's use videogames as an ice-breaker" thing comes off as inherently disingenuous, like many corporate team-building activities. (Not because of what you'd be doing; because of the long history of corporate cynicism in this area)
Even if you can figure out a way to make it work, clearing that hurdle of perception seems nearly impossible.
@jbf1755 Well, some folks can, anyway. Still not rolled out to most servers yet.
@gpowerf That sounds dangerously close to what Zuck is trying to do with the metaverse.
@mmasnick @riskybusiness I just assumed that was the eventual, inevitable, end of the success of the protocol-over-platform paradigm.
But I'm sure a thriving open and free subset will continue to exist too so 🤷♂️
@KlasfeldReports Yes, but I also see those posts explicitly marked as unlisted, so...?
Meta: Bad Behavior
@marathon0 @ceoln Yeah, presumably. In my case, I use a browser on PC, so client and server version are largely synonymous.
Tried watching #Netflix's new show about the last #BlockBuster, especially because I like a number of the actors in it.
But they might as well just call it "Stereotypes: The Show".
It's *really* bad.
Meta: Bad Behavior
@marathon0 @ceoln I'm talking about the main branch.

Meta: Bad Behavior
@ceoln I'm pretty sure I read recently that that's a standard feature of the new 4.0 RC. So, in theory, most clients should have it soon.
