Former US President

💯 “Donald Trump has a very “fragile ego” and if he is challenged in a primary or he feels disrespected” he will “do whatever he can to tear the entire Republican party down” Mary Trump tells @mehdihasan

@daeyoung Sounds like you're describing more than .

Most principled libertarians are perfectly fine with privately-moderated spaces and while they don't like in general, they recognize the need for some in the financial industry to prevent widespread exploitation. They just want the least government regulation necessary to achieve that goal.

US politics

"We don't even need Georgia!"

"Let Texas freeze!"

"If [Southern State] elects [politician I don't like], then they deserve what they get!"

Please try very hard not to be this person. This language gives people the impression that you don't care about the most vulnerable people, beyond their ability to vote for things that make your life more comfortable. I know you may not mean it this way.

Georgians need Georgia. No one deserves to freeze. It's OK to care about other people.

@Decad3nce Given the other tools offered on this platform to mute words and hashtags, I think at some point, there are limits to how much harm the speaker can prevent (or is responsible for preventing), and it becomes incumbent on the listener to avoid spaces they know will trigger their issues.

So, I think it comes down to moderation. You do what you can (in this case, content warnings), and the listener chooses whether they want to engage with your speech (muting/blocking).

If you want the broadest possible appeal, you try to go with subjects that don't trigger anything. If you don't care about broad appeal, you can post more about what you want, with appropriate content warnings for discoverability.

That seems to be about as happy a medium as the human condition allows.

Consistently impressed by design decisions by Mastodon devs. Sure, there’s some usability rough edges compared to the bird site. But on balance the reasons for the general vibe here are clearly intentional decisions, not an accident. 🙏🏻

@PawelK Habaneros were recently (like 20 years ago) considered the hottest peppers on the planet.

My dad dared me to eat one when I was a kid. I took a nibble of the skin (which isn't hot) and thought "this is easy" and chomped the whole thing.

I spent the next hour crying with my face in a bowl of milk 😂

A friend of mine commented the other day after me explaining what the #fediverse is (he'd never come across the term, despite knowing about #mastodon), that it was more web3 than the crypto stuff was 🤣

I have to agree...it's a much better vision for how the web can evolve, even though many of the concepts have been around since, or even before, web 2.0

@freemo @taz @Pat Yeah, I don't think this needs moderation. It very much falls under the category in the rules for "Anything that can be solved by a personal block"

@taz They posted a fresh toot and tagged you, so it was considered a new conversation by the system.

@taz Yeah, I was wondering if that just didn't appear in my notifications or if it actually came out of nowhere.

@freemo Correct. If I was wrong about that being frowned-upon, please let me know.

@Pat @taz Reproducing others' posts without their consent is generally frowned-upon here.

There's a reason Mastadon doesn't normally implement quote tweeting.

@Pat @taz Only when you ignore manufacturing and disposal costs.

@Pat @taz To some folks' egos, sure. It does not, however, matter to the environment. Not yet.
