I dunno about the rest of you, but I think there should be an exception to this law for appropriately holiday-themed passengers within two weeks of a holiday.
July? HOV with a life sized Uncle Sam doll to get out of tickets.
October? HOV lane with corpses and skeletons becomes legal.
Then November comes along and becomes a bloodbath as commuters attempt to drive with feral turkeys in the car.

I really despise this idea some people have about the need to stay on Twitter "to fight". To fight what? This isn't a war where ground is won or lost. The platform is wholly and unquestionably owned by the person you're trying to fight against. He has shown he doesn't care about loss of advertisers, loss of respect, loss of users. Twitter is now nothing but his personal alt-right cult. The only valid reason to stay is to assist others in leaving. If you're generating any other forms of content, you're simply enabling him to radicalize *your* userbase.

Protip for the new mastodonians: don't obfuscate names or words - only hashtags work for search so you won't get troll bombed if you say Elon Musk.

Filters, however, work on anything, so those who don't want to see Elon Musk won't see this post.

But if you write El*n M*sk they WILL see it, and that might make them mad, so don't do it okay? Let people use their filters.

@heidilifeldman Mine was my dad bribing me and my two brothers with candy to say we'd vote for Bush over Kerry (I think there was also a mock election at school involved).

Only one of us resisted. It was not me.

Before I break for dinner, here’s a conversational icebreaker for everybody? What is your earliest political memory?

Mine is lying on the backseat of my parents’ car, hearing the radio reporting on Watergate and my parents commenting and wondering if Watergate was something that would ever end.

If you're in the EST time zone and you have relatively clear weather, go outside right now and look up.

You see that really bright orange star near the middle of the sky?

That's Mars.

@bucachowchow @cathygellis @jmiers230 Demonstrating exactly part of the problem. If I recall correctly, it stands for "Child Sexual Abuse Material".

@jmiers230 @cathygellis While I totally get where you're coming from, I have to agree with Cathy, here.

The term "child porn" is well established in the collective unconscious as a heinous crime and, as such, induces an immediate state of deep revulsion in the average adult. Moving to "CSAM", while technically more accurate, also feels like watering down the language. It feels like renaming "murder" laws "loss of life" laws. Doubly-so when it's just presented as an acronym people are expected to know.

In addition, the word "porn" is used for much more than "pornography" these days (i.e. "food porn"). So, I think it's flexible enough to carry the weight in describing CSAM as the actively harmful garbage it is.

(Also, side note, you don't have to self-censor yourself here, unless your instance admin has some absurd moderation policies, but even then, you can just move instances if you want.)

Here is Elon’s full appearance in @katienotopoulos’ spaces with banned journalists tonight

@sliabh Anywhere that's hiring hybrid just screams "we really wanted all our employees back in the office, but couldn't figure out a way to force them."

@Vonskinnback@mastodon.socialThey're certainly right-wing, but please don't curse the libertarian name with their hypocritical populism.

@cmduhe Correct. There's nothing illegal about what Elon's doing, and he has every "free speech" right to do what he's doing.

*However*, he made a *really big deal* about turning Twitter into a "free speech platform" where nobody gets banned for the content of their speech.

Now he's banning people for making fun of him.

People are pointing out how the hypocrisy is thick enough to cut with a knife.

@e_urq @adamdavidson To be clear, you don't think they're smart or acting in good faith anymore, right?
