@peterdrake Maybe specifically teaching how these bots can fail would be a valuable lesson, though. Introduce the tech while showing that it isn't a flawless solution...
@peterdrake With an LLM properly trained for education, I could see the value in it.
The problem is that new coders don't know when the bot is talking out of its ass (which it does frequently). And, worse, the bot learns from the user, which creates negative feedback loops for newer coders. That's why the current iteration of this tech still requires a wider domain knowledge (that new coders don't have) to be truly useful.
@peterdrake That sounds extremely problematic. Entry-level coders should *not* be using tools like CoPilot... all that will do is reinforce their mistakes and flaws and make them worse coders in the long-run.
@brody I would be very wary of that. Konami have not been good stewards of the franchise since Kojima left. There's a decent chance this will be a broken cash-grab on release.
@shuttersparks Sounds like the slow advancement of natural selection to me.
@Empiricism_Reloaded Idk about that. Being covered in fire ants would definitely feel like too much nature to me.
@Valon_Blue @Empiricism_Reloaded There are still a number of issues with that. What if two servers both claim to be hosting that key? Which one takes precedence?
Also, say you get banned and migrate. How do your old connections re-connect? Are all servers scanning other servers for moved keys all the time?
I know there are people reading this who work for major companies still advertising on Twitter (Apple, Google, and Amazon at least), so: two days before the SF Trans March, Elon is making it even more explicit that Twitter is a transphobic platform. You have the ability to influence the behaviour of your employers. Maybe do that?
@sylvia_ritter Well, that, or consumer boycotts. The problem is that the average consumer, for decades now, has chosen lower prices over things like living wages or fair play. We, as a society, are enabling this behaviour. Maybe new laws are the answer, but with their money and lobbyists, they can always carve out a loophole. Collective action seems like the real answer to me.
@jcct @anderseknert Oh, believe me, I know it. I started out fresh out of college in one of the biggest tech companies out there. If it wasn't for the fact that I went through a job placement firm, I never would have even known they owed me 5-figures of overtime pay, much less actually gotten that pay.
@sylvia_ritter Yeah... It's absolute bullshit that they work with companies/individuals who openly break the law and don't even seem to have a real process for addressing that. I can't even imagine how much that would suck if it was eating into my livelihood too.
Sounds like it's ripe for a class-action, but they know that few, if any, of the people affected could manage to set one up...
@jcct @anderseknert So true. That's a big part of why I went from a tech executive to an independent contractor. Sounds like a step down, but it wasn't, in almost every way.
