@LeslieBurns @Axomamma Yeah, congratulations, you caught me messing up a detail in a tangent unrelated to my initial point.

And you can fuck right off with the "mansplaining". I was discussing the ethics of insurance companies with you as equals, but if you want to play the victim instead, you go right on ahead and have fun with that.

@LeslieBurns @Axomamma Then substitute "your client" for "you" in my previous post. The point still stands.

Actually, the fact that your client had to call an attorney to get what they were owed by their insurance company *bolsters* my point.

@willoremus I feel like this would still be possible if there were outlets that focused on specific subjects instead of trying to cover politics and food and celebrities and sports all in one place.

@indubitablyodin Wait, screen readers haven't figured out how to read inline hashtags yet?

I agree with the camel case suggestion, but I struggle to believe that they don't support a feature of the net that even my grandma knows about.

@codefolio @MisuseCase @maxkennerly It's Microsoft. They can afford it. Over time, the tech will get cheaper and their prices will go up. And by then, they'll have a commanding lead on the market and a shitload of training data to give them a lead over other companies.

Right now, we're just paying with usage data instead of dollars.

@codefolio @MisuseCase @maxkennerly Right, because, like most early tech ventures, capturing the market share matters more than profiting at first.

@LeslieBurns @Axomamma Fair, but what I said still applies. How many other options do you have? How much of a pain in the ass would it be to switch?

They know this. They know they can treat you badly, to a point, because the friction will keep you there regardless.

@FrankPasquale That's like saying that a hammer is failing to print your document.

Yeah, when you use the tool wrong, it produces poor results. Anyone trying to use AI to look up case law is trying to print a document on a hammer.

@LeslieBurns @Axomamma Wait, what? Which insurance company still has a positive brand?

Insurance is required by law in most places, the industry is so highly consolidated that consumers don't really have much of a choice, and the entry barrier for upstart businesses is insane. That's a breeding ground for corporate stagnation. They don't have to please you because they know that there are only two other companies that might carry you, and those are just as bad.

BREAKING: On a 2-1 vote, the 11th Circuit DENIES Florida’s request that it be allowed to enforce its anti-drag law against everyone in the state except the plaintiffs during the appeal.

tl;dr: The law remains wholly blocked.

@LeslieBurns This is really surprising to me. I thought that's what insurance companies intentionally looked for in their hiring. I have yet to find one that isn't doing their abject best to screw me over.

@maxkennerly @rlpaulprodn It's Microsoft. They can charge whatever the hell they want. Moreover, they own GitHub, which is a wealth of training data, at their fingertips.

It's not cheap because they're trying to be "cheap on labor." It's cheap because they want to get developers hooked early so they can capture the market. The prices will go up once they have the market share they want.

Given the horrific nature of Hamas’s attacks, destroying its military arm is a legit act of defense. Targeting its civil administration and starving the population of #Gaza—40% of which are children under 14–are war crimes.

Seems straightforward to me but a lot of people can’t or won’t grasp that.

"Defends itself and protects its people" is an interesting way to say "bombs civilian hospitals and schools."

@maxkennerly It's strange that you make that comment while quoting an article that talks about GitHub Copilot, which specifically does the opposite of what you're complaining about in your OP.
