Oh, FFS. There are Mastodon admins trying to get the Raspberry Pi server on Fediblock?

That's some really pathetic thin-skinned bullshit.

On the other hand, maybe something like this will be the death knell for the centralized nature of Fediblock.

Holy crap, Liz Upton is just showing incredible depths of incompetence in this article.

Basically everything she said was wrong.

How is she still employed?

This isn't "jaw dropping". It's "complete nonsense".

With our current level of tech, this proposal is exactly as plausible as establishing a base on the surface of the sun, and ought to be treated as such.

I think I just answered my own question. It's a "white grub". A larva form of June Beetles.

Dear god, what is this horrifying giant grub thing my dog found in the yard?

Reminder:

The people who work for you have three resources: time, energy, and give-a-fuck.

Time is the cheapest. It replenishes one hour every hour.

Energy is more expensive. When you're out, you need lots of time off to recharge.

Once give-a-fuck is burned, it's gone forever.

4/ Unfortunately, a lot of instances signed up for UFoI because, from a cursory glance, it looks like they have good intentions.

But because they're now associated with UFoI -- even if briefly -- they are now indiscriminately on Fediblock.

This is guilt by association.

And unfortunately, too many instance admins block everything that winds up on Fediblock without investigation.

This isn't being proactive, it's being reactive and lazy.

HBO's Avenue 5 struggled a bit on its first season, but it really finds its comedic footing in S2.
If you like British-style comedy and sci-fi, check it out.

If you're a parent, and you're trying to figure out how to break it to your kid that the world is an arbitrary, unfair, bizarre, stupid place, just tell them this:

An adult horse produces about 15 horsepower.

Protest matters. Protest just helped stop the SFPD from having the right to use deadly force using robots, a policy that the board of Supervisors overwhelmingly supported in a vote just last week. eff.org/deeplinks/2022/12/vict

Good evening!

Here comes my starless and rather experimental narrowband version of the famous Orion Nebula (M42). Exposure: in total 9 hours of halpha, SII & OIII data.

From a libertarian perspective, I sure wish we had stronger enforcement of anti-trust laws.

It seems that the lack of enforcement is leading people to want to pass laws treating the symptoms (anti-consumer practices) instead of the causes (not caring what consumers think due to monopolistic lock-in). And those poorly-thought-out regulations will inevitably lead to bad knock-on effects.

If we had better anti-trust enforcement, it would be easier for new competitors to enter the market, which would allow us to fix these anti-consumer problems naturally, with market competition.

Modern game developers are so wasteful with disk space that it makes me sad that there are "only" 4TB external SSDs for sale.
