A wise man I know gave my daughter advice as she moved up into middle school and started getting involved in student government.

He told Ruth, “There are two kinds of people who get involved in politics: people who want to be someone and people who want to do something. Always seek a position in order to accomplish a goal, rather than to to gain a title.”

We should all take his advice to heart.

Sure, they're banning books in Tennessee and Texas. But it's not just the books that get published and then banned from the library. It's all the books that don't get published in the first place.

Those banning books know publishers like Scholastic pull this cowardly bullshit. It's their game plan.

Texas has the strongest stand your ground laws in the country. Perry’s stand your ground defense failed. That should tell you something.

Even the courts in Texas did not believe that this was self-defense. The jury unanimously did not believe it was self-defense. In spite of that Abbott immediately says he is going to pardon the guy. In other words, in Abbott’s Texas other Republican states, kill a protester and get out of jail free. That's what he's encouraging.

Mehdi Hasan can, at times, be one of the most absolutely infuriating bougie liberal wankers in our media sometimes; but the fact that not one other member of the "cool kids" New York media circle used their relationship with nepo-baby Matt Taibbi to expose what a piece of dogshit, lying, reactionary trashfire Matt has openly become, is extremely telling. I don't think Hasan and I could be friends, but every once in a while, he forces me to respect him as a journalist and a stand up guy.
