Never forget, a 13-year study of a dozen cities found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for ALL ROAD USERS. And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. As for sharrows, it’s safer to NOT have them. Via #StreetsblogUSA, read their article. #bikelanes #bikes #cities #transportation #mobility #sharrows #infrastructure #urbanplanning

@level98 I vote for “mastocating.” That way, you can masticate while you mastocate. And drive your spell checker crazy…
To this extent I'm really interested to know how the age breakdown of people on the #Fediverse. On one hand it would seem to make sense to me that most people here remember the "old internet" before the centralization and they're here to rekindle that flame of independence. On the other hand the youths are generally pretty up on this whole technology thing. I grew up on the internet and since then smartphones have become even more ubiquitous.

@herid I wonder if we have the same starting word 😊
Wordle 512 2/6
⬜⬜🟩🟨🟨
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
I keep seeing Wordle scores with an asterisk. Any idea what that signifies?
So, uh, anyone know how to _stop_ following a hashtag? Or even see a list of which ones you're following?
@level98 I'll take the weasel words as a given 😄
If I ever find the time, I'll have to read up more on this.
Iron in your blood.
Calcium in your bones.
Oxygen in your lungs.
Ancient atoms, all
forged in fiery hearts
of stars.
There are atoms
in your left hand
born in different stars
to those in your right.
Infinitesimal fragments
of unending cosmos
traversing the vastness.
All to become
you.

@level98 The thing I don't get is, assuming Einstein is the best model we have for gravity, why do physicists still talk about gravitons? If there's no force, there's no field; no field, no excitation resulting in a particle.
I'm very ignorant on a lot of this stuff, and welcome any criticism of any misunderstandings above.
US Politics
@ottaross True, but it would be nice if they had a little padding to make up for the likes of Manchin and Sinema.
@dougcoulson Let's not forget the defenestration...
@gnomon @nicky @ottaross Ah, okay, that makes sense. So a constantly updated list of people like @ottaross is producing would best be handled by "edit."
Am I right in guessing that the edit function is not universally available? I know I used it at least once when I was still on mastodon.social, but I don't see it anymore, just delete and re-draft (on both the web interface and the iOS app Metatext).
Do you want to avoid seeing the same boosts again and again and again in Mastodon?
Then (if you're comfortable using Github) go to this issue and give it a thumbs up, to let the developers know you feel this way:
https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/18693
At the moment Mastodon is hardcoded to show boosts again if there have been just 40 other posts since the last time. This is way too low for many people, they may reach this limit very quickly, and it would (IMHO) make more sense to let users set it by time.
For example, it would be nice if users could say "Don't show the same boost again within 48 hours/7 days/Ever" (where the "Ever" option would prevent the same boost ever being visible again).
@SakuraNoSeirei Genius. I love it
@kevpluck Oh I *wish* iOS did that. Just tried it, no joy.
Retired Chem/Physics/Earth Sciences teacher. I'm interested in everything.
I like a good debate that introduces me to other perspectives. I don't waste much time with people who devolve to name-calling or insults, aside to call them out on it.
I think society performs at its best when we take care of others, especially the weakest among us. That means a strong social safety net, with "free" healthcare, education, and public transit. It's a dream, I know.
30+ years of explaining stuff to teenagers has left me with some habits... I'm not a mansplainer, but I *do* like to find ways to 'splain stuff to receptive ears 😊
I like dogs, cats, and astronomy pictures with a bias towards the shorter wavelengths (kinda leaves out all those lovely Hα pics 😄).
The first thing I look at when shopping for cars is headroom/legroom. Saves a lot of time.
