@jcagar Sorry, one last thing I'd point out. As many schools, etc. have upgraded lighting over the years to be more efficient, is there spare ampacity on these circuits that could be utilized for filter fixtures (lights => occupancy)?

@jcagar A sack was the simplest shape I made. If sacks can be mass-produced, glued instead of taped together, unit cost is reduced.

@jcagar I still believe a network of such PC fan/filter fixtures within a space is compelling to explore (akin to lighting design). A factory roll of MERV-13 or MERV-14 can most economically/simply achieve a desired fan/filter surface area ratio through simple shapes and construction methods. Scale/array to achieve desired CADR. The question remains how performant such a design is compared an equivalent box filter. (I gave my supplies away in hopes of that answer.)

@mattsheffield Just to follow, up Chris Lehmann made the observation in your podcast: "...people who are kind of sociopaths..."
I believe that true and critical to explore, because I believe personalities like Musk (and Trump, both cruel to degrees) are inherently harmful (dangerous) to society. I would also point to Jay Rosen and Wesley Lowrey's press criticisms in this regard.

@mattsheffield Serious question: what is Musk? Does he represent any greater threat than how he's been commonly described (troll, rich kid trying to buy friends, etc.)? Do his behaviors reveal anything more sinister about his psyche or intentions? I find a disturbing parallel between him and Trump vis-à-vis our naivety. Is there merit to this, based on observation/record, or is my worry a product of hyper-vigilance/fear in this time?

If Musk "is Trump" (psychopathic) and you 'bring value' to his business with your participation, what message does it send to an outside observer? How is society shaped by the participation of hundreds of millions, including most all major press and the influential? What does that reveal about our values?

@chadloder I would say much the same for any writer, artist or celebrity remaining on Twitter. Staying eats a hole in all their good works and exposes the true hierarchy of their values, to say nothing of the collective, numbing effect it has on society. It's simply gross on its face.

@nhan Not in any way that would change a goddamn thing, but to say that riding Musk's bucket to oblivion strikes me as largely self-serving and craven, and doing so ought to torment one's conscience.

@syntagmatic @mark_ungrin Imagine disturbing filtration across space by lengthening such available connections (considering voltage drop, raceway reqs). Splitter cables (whips) of greater length/guage can be crafted in bulk.

@syntagmatic it's practical in that it's arguably cheaper to cut a rectangle from a factory roll and glue seams than create a cardboard framed pleated filter. For a single 140mm fan , I think you can achieve an adequate surface area for pressure drop. The material holds its shape fairly well, and suspension can allow for either flow direction setup.

@syntagmatic @mark_ungrin The cheapest individual assemblies I could think to make were sacks and columns secured with elastic (headbands) and suspended from string w/ MERV-13 media (supplied by Jim Rosenthal).

@syntagmatic Yeah, I looked at that some, lots of 24V ballasts, and there's 10, 12, 14" vehicle radiator fans that are 24V (tho the ones I tried couldn't be PWM'd to decrease speed/noise, and a rheostat would waste power). I'm not aware of any 24V PC sized fans, but I'd like to believe a multitude of quiet, low-cost assemblies is worth exploring. I just don't have the money to continue building out designs (and honestly couldn't sway anyone even if I did- I tried).
