Anxiety, death and thoughts about neurotic and maladaptive behavior
I read today that people high in neuroticism often have fewer mental "buffers" that usually serve to insulate the mind from a lot of different anxieties. For example, these buffers could be a belief in the afterlife, spirituality, mysticism or general willingness to engage in purposeful self-deceit (albeit an unconscious one).
From my personal experience, this explains a lot about how I feel. There is a pain attached to trying to keep my mind within the realm of the real, to avoid the pitfalls of self-deception and distraction.
A lot of people find some deeper meaning in some religion or are inclined to be spiritual, whatever that means. I don't have such facets at my disposal, which often serves to increase my anxiety.
I have often felt the need to engage in certain maladaptive strategies, especially alcohol and self-isolation, to try and keep my mind from racing uncontrollably all day long.
I have often thought about my death from a third person perspective, often likening it to a candle being symbolically blown out. I still sometimes feel anxious about it. I'm young so I guess that's understandable.
I don't really know what to make of all this, I guess I just had to let it out for now. And rather than writing it in my journal, I thought it would be useful to hear what you think? Is your experience at all similar to mine? If so, what do you do about it?
Thanks for reading. Have a nice one.

Haha, i came across this and wondered if they now classify covid problems that follow after a few weeks as "not covid". Well, seems my spider sense was working.

I just realized: When i told the one wannabe nazi that his compatriot had sent a pic of himself shitting himself, that was not even questioned.
It seems to be par for the course? Normal? They just... do that?

I generally invite questions. If you look for a clue if it is ok to ask hard questions: this is it. As long as it is in good faith and you want to know wtf i was thinking, go ahead please.
