2 December 1941 | A Pole Wacław Kroczowski (b. 4 June 1909) perished in the Auschwitz camp. He was imprisoned there on 7 September 1940. He was registered as JBV (Jehovah’s Witness) and received the number 3764.

Because of their religious principles, pacifistic views & their organization’s international connections Jehovah’s Witnesses were persecuted in Nazi Germany.

Listen about some 400 Jehovah’s Witnesses in Auschwitz. https://anchor.fm/auschwitz-memorial/episodes/On-Auschwitz-17-prisoners-with-purple-triangles---Jehovahs-Witnesses-in-Auschwitz-e1edpkh/a-a7dh2m3

December 2, 1959, Malpasset dam collapses destroying the French riviera town of Frejus and killing 423 people. An overlooked tectonic fault beneath the dam was later found as the most likely cause of the disaster.

Dunster by Candlelight starts today, so here’s Dunster Castle with the setting moon and the Milky Way. I am told this picture would make a good cover photo for a gothic horror novel! #exmoor #exmoornationalpark #dunster #dunstercastle #dunsterbycandlelight #astrophotography #milkyway #moon #landscapephotography #photography

Mastodon will break 8 million users by tomorrow!

7,925,283 accounts are active.

>2,000 new accounts are being made every hour.

That's 1 million new accounts being made since a week and a half ago.

Oh the mind boggles about those cat-related lawsuits #cats

All right #Mastodon, show this #twitterexodus refugee what you can do.

Walked away from 6700 followers because I won't provide content (not directly, at least) or be in the same space as a destructive & dangerous narcissist. This new (for me) place is cool but I do miss being able to post a special #nature #photograph & know it will get seen thousands of times.

I guess that's my #introduction. I rant about #covid #CovidIsNotOver & #LongCovid & I live in a beautiful place. With a foot of snow.

Saturn has at least 83 moons. Titan, the largest, is bigger than the planet Mercury and if you count the extent of its atmosphere the largest in the solar system. Enceladus is home to massive cryovolcanic plumes and is one of the best places in the solar system to look for signs of microbial life. Hyperion looks like a sponge and Mimas looks like the Death Star.

If you live in #california and struggle with #LongCovid — aka #PostCovid syndrome — the Department of #publichealth wants to hear from you. Please boost!

Two 14th century cogs (single-masted transport ship) have been unearthed in Varberg, Sweden.
"dendrochronological study of one of the ships, indicates that the lumber was felled after 1346 in the region that today consists of the Netherlands, Belgium, and north-eastern France, while the lumber from the second ship was felled between 1355 and 1357 in northern Poland" https://www.heritagedaily.com/2022/11/14th-century-shipwrecks-discovered-in-sweden/145395

Not sure if people want to talk about this but I want to start the conversation.

"How can we help #Mastodon servers maintain independence and pay the bills?"

This is a great service. But we will need to pull together and help maintain it. This stuff isn't free. We are many. It's only a matter of time until we overcrowd the place and we also don't want ads.

Please post your answers below. Boosts are appreciated to get the conversation going.🔁

Mondrian Crescent

I love it when train doors align at the end of a tunnel. The red tiles at Green Park station make this the ideal location to capture this moment.

It wasn't luck though, instead I froze the moving train with a fast shutter. It took ages to get it centred.

This final image resembles an abstract art painting by Piet Mondrian.
