@Hyolobrika @bonifartius @Awoo its possible to lie with the truth. its done all the time :blobcatwhistle:

one example is taking footage from an arrest and selectively cutting it to look like someone is being thrown from a car and slammed on the ground, and then cutting the audio track out so you can't hear everyone talking.

it becomes B-roll that looks like cops just bodyslammed an innocent person for no reason.

(the footage might actually be the perp asking to be let out of the car.)

@icedquinn @Awoo @Hyolobrika@berserker.town i guess one can't have free and risk free at the same time. our unity of state and industry is risk free for most, you can't have freedom though.

@icedquinn @Awoo @Hyolobrika@berserker.town yeah, that's a problem one has to account for. still better than magic illegitimate governments deciding upon the single truth.

😮The bet of the governement is clearly:

1/ that the courageous people striking at tremendous personal cost, and otherwise blocking infrastructure will get exhausted

2/ that brutal repression will contribute to that objective, to terrorize dissent and discourage support

3/ that lapdogging-media will open a "new sequence" of spin on "the horrible anti-democratic violence of people burning stuff and blocking the country" to erode support from general population.

❓A friend of mine just asked me "what is a 49-3?" and despite International press covering quite in depth the ongoing political crisis in France, it made me feel like adding here my personal take on it, in case you were wondering.

(Long thread. As always: check your sources and correct me if I am wrong ;)) )

nobody should have trusted footage in the first place! it always was a vehicle to bullshit others.

i'd say trust isn't binary but fuzzy logic. e.g. i can trust someone i don't know to a degree if i can randomly ask unrelated people and they say the same thing
@icedquinn @Awoo

@bonifartius @Awoo @Hyolobrika i don't really think they needed deepfakes for any of this. they've been talking about it for a while now. it's just been going through testing phases around the world to see if they could get enough consent decrees to pull it off.

india's aadhar is a big beta test of widespread biometrics, britain and EU's web filters in through "but muh kids," in the USA they've had the worst time of it because our culture is in direct opposition to being controlled that way so they've had to spend a long time breaching firewalls explicitly erected to stop that exact kind of control, but they got it now with the whole big tech - homeland security fascism bit.

@Hyolobrika@berserker.town @icedquinn @Awoo the real takeaway should be to not believe anything on the net. i don't know why this is so hard to accept. it will be probably for the better anyway to stop trusting recorded evidence and believe only eyewitness.

if i get pressed to get a fucking shit universal mandatory ID it's time for a shed in the woods.

I like having the id in the name, mostly because I intend to write a script to go through and see how many videos I have that haven’t been deleted/censored/removed forever. I use something similar:

#!/bin/fish function yt yt-dlp -f bestvideo+bestaudio --write-sub --write-auto-sub --sub-format srt/best --sub-lang en --embed-subs -o "/media/storage/streaming/youtube/%(uploader)s/%(title)s-%(id)s.%(ext)s" $argv[1] end

good yt-dlp config

~/.config/yt-dlp/config

--no-mtime
-o ./%(title)s.%(ext)s
-f "bestvideo[ext=mp4]+bestaudio[ext=m4a]/best[ext=mp4]/best"

This gets rid of the id crap from the name, doesn't set the file time to the past, and automatically prefers best video and audio.
