HTTPS encryption for EU residents is at risk, as the soon-to-be-passed Article 45 removes browsers’ control over security for their users.

@Sophistifunk fair enough ;) i still wonder how they did that effect back then, save frame by frame

@wholemilk @r000t that's still not the point. "a clump of 100 human-cells" has a past and future. it doesn't only exist in a vacuum called "now".

"a clump of 100 human-cells" because i scraped my knee is different from "a clump of 100 human-cells" which develops into a screaming new born baby because i had intercourse.

the cells from knee scraping will never (aside experiments best described as man-made horrors) grow into a human being.

the cells from the unification of sperm and egg are unique and will, with a bit of luck, be a human being. it could be only the first cell for that matter, not even hundreds.

note i never said that there is no reason for abortions, there are cases where it's still sad but the best choice.

the slovenly way their proponents talk about them, "clump of cells" etc., is what is so evil. it's the spark of life and they act like it is an empty box of cheap wine.

GNU project flag.

In 1983 Dr. Richard Matthew Stallman announced the start of this project.

What I like a lot about his idea, is the GPL license. You can apply it even to hardware, very versatile.

When I first read the GPL license, I felt in love with it. Inside it is written about the freedoms that the user gets (spoiler:they are four freedoms).

The GPL is not like the other licenses that are thought to take away the freedom and rights of the user; it is the opposite.

You can read the GPL V3 license in text format here:
https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-3.0.txt

Honestly you can just read the first two or three paragraphs of the preamble, and let me know if you like the free as in freedom of speech philosophy, I love it.

This is my first post, I'd like to share with you also the definition of hacker by rms:
"To be an hacker means to do things in a spirit of playfulness cleverness exploring the limits of what's possible. So you can be an hacker in all sort of different media, programming is just one of them."
Dr. Richard Matthew Stallman

If have never thought about the importance of software in our lives and the fact that software is either free or non free, there are no other options, there is a video I encourage you to watch it have been recorded at the TEDx in Geneva in 2014.

It has subtitles in various languages it is a short, informative and very clear video, everyone gets what we are defending after watching it.
www.fsf.org/tedx

FSF is the Free Software Foundation, the only one that truly care about the freedom of software users, don't fall for imitations, FSF is the one to support and follow.

Did opensource came into your mind? That is the works of corporations, opensource is not free software, you can read why in this article:
https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/open-source-misses-the-point.en.html

I will use this account to talks about freedom as in freedom of speech a lot probably, hope you won't mind.

I'm already becoming familiar with this sort of thing. what sort of culture will we become when endless novelty becomes ordinary?

@wholemilk @r000t
trying to find the cut-off age where it's ok and where it isn't is not the problem.

the very idea to talk about something "worth of preserving" and "clump of cells" instead of a "baby" is the problem. thinking like this is an evil. people stop valuing the spirit of life because of this line of thought. at least call things by their name even if it makes you uncomfortable. bear the consequences of your actions.

it's the same for food (amongst many other things). you either can be grateful for the spirit of life which made it possible to nurture you. or you can treat it as something life- and soulless which fulfills a technical purpose.

when i experience nature with it's all embracing force of life it's pretty clear to me that there are things ratio can't grasp. against my strong inner feeling i had since childhood, i once in hubris strayed from acknowledging this spirit of life. thinking everything can be quantified and put into numbers. it only led me to deep pain.

the scientific philosophers of old had many flaws of their own but they knew better than to forsake the spiritual aspect of life.

@ai @cinerion @hidden Perhaps the most pervasive cognitohazard that I can identify though is the belief that the paper pusher can file away and categorize absolutely every mystery of the universe, to dissect it and break it down into tractable component parts that he already understands.
This is the philosophical undercurrent of much of westoid human behavior, which pretends that the lattice through which the world is viewed is both infinitely vast, and its slats infinitely narrow, that nothing is obscured by the boundaries of its many subset boxes. Instead it is pretended that those things which are hidden by the lattice itself simply do not exist, or that a more refined lattice need only to be conceived of and then the picture will become clearer.
This is inhuman tyranny.

@r000t unfortunately that hasn't worked out so far even with abortions being common :P

i agree that having shit parents is probably close to what could be called hell on earth.

i also think the more feverish supporters of abortion are creepy in how blase they talk about killing life. they seem to _enjoy_ it and it's unsettling.

@r000t of course there are valid cases for abortion, the obsession about it feels pretty creepy. given there are plenty of tools for not getting pregnant.

@r000t counterpoint: people should stop fucking if they don't want to deal with the consequences.

or cut up their respective tubing.

re: :parrot: arthropod of the day :parrot:

🚨 ARTHROPOD OF THE DAY 🚨

The family Phylliidae (often misspelled Phyllidae) contains the extant true leaf insects or walking leaves, which include some of the most remarkably camouflaged leaf mimics (mimesis) in the entire animal kingdom. They occur from South Asia through Southeast Asia to Australia.

Leaf mimicry often is elaborate among the leaf insects, with the insects’ wings and legs closely imitating leaf colour and form. Female elytra typically resemble, in their vein pattern, the midrib and veins in a leaf. Some species are even adorned with markings that resemble spots of disease or damage, including holes. Nymphs may sway side to side, as though mimicking the movement of a leaf in the wind. Leaf mimicry is thought to play an important role in defense against predators. Some species possess rows of tubercles on their antennae that when rubbed together produce sounds that may also serve to ward off predators.

@McMongoose maybe to jabber relentlessly about a mixture of fringe political and religious concepts while soiling myself is a good backup plan.
