we have a raven living here, it just took a rest atop a tree <3

@blueplanetslittlehelper, I’d refrain from the left/right concepts since they seem to have constantly change in the last decade and it’s a western culture war thing I’ve no part in. However, note that not every man could “rightfully” marry someone (properties, as you said, don’t randomly get transferred from one to another, they were sold and bought). Where I’m from, traditionally marriages are arranged by the parents of both sides.

Now, speaking of power and control, they don’t come out of nowhere. For the upper class the men had the upper hand because only them can get involve in politics or own large business. Farmers, however, divide works suitably between all family members (oh, and children hardly got any education back then) who all work for the land lords. After all it boils down to the ability to provide for the family. And anyone I tell you that people used to die really young back then and the one who lived would take charge of the family?

As part of my general education I studied early modern literature and even the pre-communism works highlighted pretty clearly the class conflict and how both men and women had to overwork to feed their family. The only difference was that women didn’t exists in the eye of the law in the way that they didn’t get taxed, but in reality the tax was shared within the household. It’d be misogynistic to dismiss their ability and contribution just because some piece of paper said so, don’t you think?

I’d say for a long time incels were hardly an issue because most men knew they never got to choose their life partner, and some never got a chance to reproduce at all. That’s the place where I agree with @thor, it’d be irresponsible to tell young men that they can be with their ideal women as long as they are nice and loving. The same for young women, we’ve set the expectations too high for the new generation, together with the digital isolation, people become more entitled and less compassionate to help each other to survive. The class conflict is still there, we just get distracted by gender and racial issues.

people are so toxic when it comes to demanding CWs on everything and being super passive aggressive when you dont

1) mastodon is not the fediverse. i understand english-speaking mastodon has a specific culture that caters to it, but there are other cultures on fedi. I've made the case for pleroma using CWs and tried to normalize that as much as I can, but most pleroma folks don't even see "CW" in their subject field and don't hide it the same way Mastodon does, because it's a different platform
2) you can politely ask someone to CW something without it being an expectation that you need to vilify someone for not meeting
3) the world doesn't revolve around you. we can do nice things for each other and you can make the case for other fedi cultures to normalize CWs but to act like you're entitled to other people's courtesy is absurd when no other social media platform has a culture for CWs the same way as Mastodon does

please touch grass

Reminder that copyright bullshit is nothing new: the estate of Bram Stoker sued the fuck out of the producers of Nosferatu (1922) and had all copies destroyed (luckily a few private prints survived)

Its not an option because it is a meme that never was.

The claim that women never worked before 1965 is just a fairy tale that feminists tell themselves. In truth working class mum always worked. As did middle class and upper class mum.

The house wife as a phenomenon was a strange development in the mid 19th century that accelerated in the early post war years
@Aether @TheVeryLutheranHousewife

Exactly! There's no retvrn option which includes women in the kitchen their whole lives, and we should stop pretending that it makes sense as an option.
Women were more than just homemakers traditionally.

In family business the wife would do the books while the husband ran the shop floor. In agriculture the wife and husband work in partnership.

There was also a lot of social capital they were responsible for in the community such as church, sporting and voluntary organizations.
@TheVeryLutheranHousewife

I don't think that's really true. I think there's a lot that women should be doing in their communities which isn't part of homemaking - even the Proverbial ideal woman runs a small business and manages her money wisely. There's also community groups, charity work, etc, and many professions such as nursing which are extremely well suited to female qualities. Women partially funded the creation of the Bible, women were witnesses to the gospel, women have powerful and important roles to play in churches, communities and societies.

Pretending that women should be continually birthing from 18 to 50 and then crawl into a hole and die once their uterus has passed its expiry date is not doing anything to move people past the anti-woman image of the right.
