The weird little cults of personality that develop in academia are disgusting to me.
There are a couple profs in my department who are minorly "famous" (I had never heard of them before I joined the department as they are only well known in their own specialized fields -- and even then, not particularly so) and so there are always a certain number of grad students who come specifically to work with them. And these grad students just follow these profs around like a train of baby birds, refusing to speak to anyone else, parroting everything the prof says, to the point of being completely incapable of original or critical thought.
Beyond being sad and annoying, this also causes all kinds of problems, as it creates relationships of power that are rife with abuse and exploitation.
Anyway, the lesson here is that the best way to prevent being abused/disappointed by idols is to not idolize people in the first place.

@sfr@ralsei.moe @schratze@todon.nl @kayden@fedi.nullob.si honestly im not sure if "somehow people have created terminal emulators that somehow run at less than 60" or "some elite gamer out there actually notices their terminal running at 59fps" is more concerning
Misogynist incel trolls, pretending to know the politics of tech companies.
I remarked something weird.
A common destructive Twitter so called discussion is displayed in my Mastodon feed without any marks of RT or Twitterbot....fascinating
@arefgee @bonifartius @atoponce I'm fine with them having a female CEO, that's great, good for her! but this shouldn't take priority over Firefox improvements and innovative projects.
while people switch to Chromium because it's better and Google gets a bigger grip on the internet, Mozilla kills its only innovation, and raises the salaries of their chairs 400%!
@arefgee @bonifartius @atoponce lol I'm far-left, hate Joe Rogan and tech influencers, and still think Firefox is misplacing resources. instead of funding and advancing technological innovation, they decide to run it into the ground with obviously performative gestures like funding "social causes", making useless services like Pocket and Lockwise, shutting down actual innovations like Servo (memory safe browser engine), not encouraging choice (barely any Gecko-based browsers exist)
state licensed lolbert and hypernatalist with a breeding kink. never watched rick & morty and i'm proud of it.
don't only rely on my words, read what happy customers wrote about me: "10/10 would buy again", "top seller, great value", "wildly incorrect", "teil des problems", "without imagination", "Repeated provocation using copy/paste.", "if you take a dump in my mentions, I just might notice the smell", "log out and never login again", "Du redest wirr.", "My brother in Christ, this is such a ridiculously dumb statement that I will no longer entertain this silly conversation.", "Auf Derailing-Diskussionen habe ich keine Lust. Finger über dem Blocken-Knopf.", "Wie gesagt, du kannst der Diskussion inhaltlich nicht folgen."
