what if being a "functioning, productive member of society" isn't necessarily a great thing if you live in an unproductive, dysfunctional society

My tinfoil theories aren't even that bad compared to the actual shit they've done and gotten away with

since i'm lazy: anyone knows if there is something to play quake in coop mode?

if you want some fun, check the lobsters moderation log from time to time to see which long-time user has been banned for spurious reasons now 🙃

@klaatu wanted to drop by and say that i only recently discovered gnu world order, really nice! :)

it isn't my usual choice of music but it's kind of nice to see the hardbass people "emulating" other european electronic styles like gabber & frenchcore and having fun with themes like octoberfest. reading the comment section on youtube of those videos is almost completely friendly shitposting from many countries, having fun.

Tinfoil time but I don't even think the industry is that short on programmers anyway if they're being this picky. It's probably just Google meme'ing people into the whole "learn to code" thing to oversaturate the industry. Then their labor is worth less and programmers are easily replacable if they do bad things like try to unionize or refuse to make drone strike AI

snobby assholes in open source

some people shit on shortcomings, not realizing that the whole distribution is the work of almost only patrick volkerding plus a handful of people contributing in their spare time. the biggest snobs are in the openbsd & arch communities from my experience. not everyone of course, and arch & openbsd are fine projects.

slackware sure has some rough edges, but is simple enough if you don't need someone holding your hand and gets security fixes for an amazing long time by todays standards. slackware 14.0, released 2012 still gets fixes.

most other things have big sponsors behind them.

openbsd had >100k in 2019, arch has also multiple companies sponsoring.

patrick gets ~$2000 monthly from people on patreon.

"I will slaughter you" - some emails penetrate even my thick open source maintainer skin. Like this threat.
