@Gargron

I promise that I will never, ever say the N-word again if you make it easy for masto admins to update the max-character-length in statuses.

In my religion, numbers such as 13013 are considered to be extremely holy, while the number 5*0 is something outrageous, obscene, and unholy. So it's very uncomfortable for me and other followers of our tradition to use default #Mastodon, I don't think there's any technical reason that Mastodon users must only post 5*0 chars a post (?)

I am stepping back from the #Tusky project with immediate effect.

I discovered severe lapses in how the Tusky project's donations (received via #OpenCollective) were being handled. When I reported those to the project's private "Tusky Contributors" Matrix channel the financial admins tone policed the feedback, refused to engage with the concerns I and others raised, and demanded the discussion be stopped.

There is too much detail for a thread, so please read write.as/nikclayton/stepping-b.

@Boomerman @kf01 @Meat_Mom @Goalkeeper @Shadowman311 This expression is so familiar to me, and it conveys no love, no interest, it just isn’t the way a mother should or would look at her child. All the malice and hate she should have for herself for her behavior that led to these consequences are being directed outward to a non-autonomous entity that is dependent on her.

She blames her son, not herself. And in a lot of ways this is how so many, too many women and men act. Disgusting truth in a single picture.

re: :parrot: arthropod of the day :parrot:

Today's arthropod:

The Cyanide millipede—Harpaphe haydeniana—is the chemist of the arthropod world. This millipede produces hydrogen cyanide (HCN) to hunt prey and to protect itself against any threats. This lethal substance has proved very effective and as a result of this adaptation, the millipede has very few natural predators.

Storing HCN is extremely complex. If it is stored at room temperature, it could harm the millipede. So instead of storing this substance, the cyanide millipede stores two other chemicals, (mandelonitrile and benzoyl cyanide) in various segments of its body. When it needs to release the cyanide, chambers open and the different chemicals mix. The gas is ejected from millions of pores around the body at its prey or in defense against a predator. The millipede produces up to 0.6 milligrams of HCN, which can kill mice, predatory beetles and stun larger predators.

The millipede is found on the west coast of North America from California to British Columbia and grows to five centimeters in length.

A somewhat related counterexample is servant classes - who are often very well off financially, but are selected by their masters for their weakness and subservience so they could never in a million years overthrow their masters.
@graf @Moon @admin @john_rando @parker @sjw @verita84 Looks like, from the page, that they just do keyword search for gamer words; they are probably finding fedi accounts by the same means. The @admin account is only following one account on FSE: @eisai.

Looks like it's very naive and their search barely works. Everything on the site that *does* work is off the shelf. I'd give it 5:1 that this is a project of people laundering grant money by delivering some barely passable work and paying salaries to friends, but it looks like they're just doing an Open Collective scam: https://opencollective.com/smat/expenses . Scroll down far enough on their front page and you see a row of logos that are not actually links, just images with event handlers attached. (It is not odd for scummy sites to clickwrap links, but it is a little odd to completely forego the links and rely entirely on JavaScript.) The last of those non-links goes to https://ddosecrets.com/wiki/Distributed_Denial_of_Secrets , the organization that came out of nowhere to displace WikiLeaks, with a key difference: whereas Wikileaks never posted anything that embarrassed the Kremlin, DDoSecrets never posts anything that embarrasses the CIA. (I'm certain that this is purely coincidental. :terrylol:)

At any rate, to make a long story short, if DDoSecrets is sending these guys money (and there also appears to be overlap between people employed by SMAT and people employed by DDoSecrets: https://opencollective.com/smat/expenses/136086 ), that's enough for me.
