About a month ago, NASA's Juno probe buzzed the Jovian moon Europa, and we got this cool picture, taken from a distance of about 400 km away.

With just this picture, we can see Europa is an active world, using one of the oldest rules in the geological book. Read on to find out how!

Every #Mastodon admin right now.

As a user interface note on the continuing discussion of CW's

(1) Add CWs liberally to your posts, UKPol, MH, violence, war, eye-contact, food, alcohol, spoilers, etc.

(2) If you don't have any triggers or stressors around these subjects and find clicking to expand them tiresome go to Preferences -> Appearance -> "Always expand posts marked with content warnings"

Magically all the CW'd posts in your feed will be auto-expanded. Then *everybody* wins, the experience is good for all.

❌ we should have daylight when we go to work in the morning

❌ we should have daylight when we come home from work at night

☑️ we shouldn’t have to work so many hours that we have to ration The Sun

The glory here...is the quiet. The lack of every single organization trying to fit our heads with conclusions before they happen, with disastrous possibilities and disinformation. The silence is breathtaking.

An interesting parallel to the world of self-run Mastodon servers:

Self-run Minecraft servers

When people ask me "how could I find a server with folks I actually like, and/or one literally with friends of mine" I tell 'em, well you could run your own server

And they usually say, with justification: "That's *way* too nerdy, could never do"

And fair enough!

But ... *if* Mastodon continues to grow in popularity, I'd expect server hosting to get simpler

That *really* happened with Minecraft

@HekateWrites Get that "aspiring" out of your profile! LOL! If you write novels, you *are* a novelist! You're doing the thing already, even if you aren't published. You write! You are a writer! You finish novels... You are a novelist and author! You got this!

Also, I use too many exclamation marks! LOL!

ActivityPub could be the first spec where I found the spec more readable than its library implementations 😂

Fox personalities and fellow travelers in the right-wing media are telling their audiences that the election night counts are what matters and a lengthy counting process in which Democrats pull ahead suggests election fraud. https://www.mediamatters.org/fox-news/right-prepares-weaponize-red-mirage

I feel, as part of my initiation into this space, I must talk about my love of #Medieval elephants.

Yes, you heard me. You see, though bestiaries were very common in Western Europe, elephants were not.

So things like this happen.

"SO... lion body... got it, cloven hooves, okay, big ears and dead bird eyes... long snake face... PERFECTION."

Prompt 8: Bad news arrives. How do your characters react?

Focus on highlighting the differences in their personalities, temperaments and approaches to dealing with the scenario. Who emerges as a leader? Who ends up being reckless? Who falters in their beliefs/journey? Think about their fight, flight and freeze reactions.

I'll admit, I'm already more of a fan of this decentralized dwelling over the bird site. Just feels more community based, and, most importantly, people actually see my poor excuse for jokes.

Never stop being this nice, Mastodon.

I have a new #Writing #Blog up this morning! This one is about structure in Act 1 with discussion of beats and different theories of story structure.
