I’m Janis Wong, Postdoctoral Research Associate at The Alan Turing Institute. I have a background in #ComputerScience + #Law, and I was awarded my interdisciplinary Computer Science PhD for my research on co-creating data protection solutions through a commons. I'm interested in #DataProtection, #Ethics & #DataGovernance, where I continue to explore how we can put theory into practice across domains such a children’s rights, health, real estate & fundamental rights + freedoms.

I learned about Japanese internment from my Japanese 3rd grade teacher. She wasn't supposed to teach us about it, but she did. Thank you, Ms. Yokomizo. I'll never forget you.

A little #ThrowBackThursday joy from the Lake District, up on Loughrigg Fell last year. The light was only there for a minute or so, as the rain passed through, but it felt like a gift after the hard scramble up. I sat eating my lunch and feeling very blessed, with the wind blowing around me and the hard grey rock beneath, cradling me as I ate.

Meet the Rosy maple moth (Dryocampa rubicunda) known for it its bright pink and yellow wooly colouration.

Rosy maple moths are the smallest of the silk moths and like many other saturniids as adults they do not have mouths or ears.

They are also completely adorable! 🥰😊

Artist notes: On November 30, 2021 at 4:51 pm I was coming home from a friends and looked up to see the third in a parade of atmospheric rivers turning a bend overhead. I was so astonished that I pulled over to take a closer look and took a few reference images. I know right then and ther that this beauty was going under the brush. Usually we do not get to see the power and size of these phenomena because the heavy rains is coming down all around us and visibility is poor. Not the case this time! People saw it all around the area from sea to shore.
