Nicole, I am not sure this is what you are loking for:
Perich MG, Rajan K (2020): Rethinking brain-wide interactions through multi-region ‘network of networks’ models. Current Opinion in Neurobiology 65:146–151.
Stringer C, Pachitariu M, Steinmetz N, Reddy CB, Carandini M, Harris KD (2019): Spontaneous behaviors drive multidimensional, brainwide activity. Science 364:255.

Only to add that present-day "AI" is built on artificial neural network architectures inspired by early neuroscience work in the 60's and 70's or so, mostly the visual system of the cat as far as I know.
We now know that biological neural networks are far more complex in both architecture and operation, and it is unclear to what extent such complexity serves the house-keeping operations of the cellular substrate (the neurons and glia) or is very much part of the implementation.
On that last point: not unlike Adrian Thompson's 2005 "An evolved circuit, intrinsic in silicon, entwined with physics" https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/3-540-63173-9_61 where surprising and unexpected aspects of FPGA operation contribute significantly to the performance of circuits evolved with genetic algorithms.

'Scotland’s boost in vaccination rates during lockdown is probably linked to flexible working for parents (which enable them to attend vaccination appointments) and mobile vaccination centres. A real push to make vaccination clinics easily accessible to parents is also how Pakistan and Uganda have maintained their levels over the past few years.'

@zleap I agree. Education is always a good option, but it cant really compete with the onslaught of technology designed to promote addiction, because that does not operate via rational decision making.
For your second point, I also take breaks and have some mental health checkpoints that work for me like no social media on my phone. I don't want to assume anything about you - but from my own point of view it's probably helped by the fact that I am older and social media was not part of my childhood and adolescence. A focus of the FT piece that the quote was taken from was the dangerous effect on the developing brain.
"O Banco Central Europeu defende interesses e podemos ter a certeza que não são os das pessoas ou, como agora se diz tanto, os das famílias. Para quem tem dúvidas: reparem que ainda na semana passada, e enquanto anunciava o aumento das taxas de juro, Lagarde apelava ao fim dos apoios governamentais às famílias e às empresas."

“Multiple juries are in. They’re all reaching the same conclusion,” says Jonathan Haidt, a social psychologist and professor at New York University Stern School of Business. “When social media or high-speed internet came in, [studies] all find the same story, which is mental health plummets, especially for girls.”

Coding and regulatory changes increase TRNP1 activity and are positively selected either as a cause or a consequence of increases in brain size and cortical folding.
Phylogenetic comparisons & massively parallel reporter assay. What’s not to like from this work

Postdoctoral scientist in organelle crosstalk in health and disease @nunoraimundo
Do you like organelles? Interested in mitochondria, lysosomes? Why study just one?? We are seeking a postdoc for our organelle crosstalk projects.
This week we crack open the Messel Pit in Germany. This World Heritage Site yields thousands of Eocene fossils including fish, insects, and mammals with soft tissues preserved like hair and feathers.

Terrible news for science in Portugal. The Gulbenkian Foundation is killing off the IGC. This will leave the Champalimaud as the only truly independent international research center in the country.

“There is substantial risk, even if you’ve gotten all the vaccines,” Bernard Black, a law professor at Northwestern University who studies health policy, told me. More than 300 people still die from COVID each day, and the overwhelming majority of them are older. People ages 65 and up are currently hospitalized at nearly 11 times the rate of adults under 50.'

'Violence is not necessarily an explosion of rage detonated by an individual with a stick, a gun or an army. The most pervasive forms of violence are often no single person’s fault, which is why racism and gender inequality can so often be dismissed as just part of the cultural backdrop. Architecture, the layout of a city, finance, access to food and water, contamination, immobility or forced mobility, limits to educational attainment and other pathologies of power too often appear as the way things are.'

"Olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) are constantly exposed to pathogens, including viruses. However, serious infection of the brain by the olfactory route rarely occurs. When OSNs detect a virus, they coordinate local antiviral immune responses to stop virus progression into the brain."
