'Our current study detects chronic low-level type I interferon (IFN) activation in the cancer cells and the reciprocal astrocytes throughout the brain metastatic process. IFN responses in astrocytes promote brain metastasis by enhancing the recruitment of monocytic myeloid cells in both breast cancer and melanoma models'

Charles Micou & Timothy O'Leary discover that representational drift in #neuralactivity and physiological changes, observed over extended periods, suggests the continuous application of a #learningrule at the #cellular and #populationlevel. This phenomenon serves as a measurable signal to uncover system-level properties of biological #plasticity mechanisms, such as precision and effective #learningrates.

Pictures Considered #60: Vibrio cholerae harpooning DNA

by Christoph
Let me start with an adage: a picture is worth a thousand words. Can this also be valid for video snippets? I think so. Here you see a few seconds of a looping video in loop showing how a cholera bacterium extends a pilus, attaches the tip to DNA in the environment, and then retracts it. Worth a thousand words? Yes, sure, but also deserving 1,000 words...
