"If you have expertise in these fields yet don’t combat publicly stated falsehoods, then you’re basically saying that the status quo is acceptable."

I think an #introduction is long overdue. I‘m a group leader at Fraunhofer IKS working on dependable perception. I’m interested in making machine learning models more robust, I don’t like the current benchmark driven way ML is advancing in computer vision and would favor a more principled approach instead. I also think CIFAR-10 is the root of all evil. Besides that, I like Python and C++, play floorball and the guitar and would consider myself to be a realistic idealist. Whatever that means.

Note to any followers considering switching to bluesky, Dorsey has endorsed RFKjr which, for me, is a good reason not to be on his new platform. Having been Jacked once I have no desire to repeat the experience. thehill.com/homenews/campaign/

«“Very unusual”, “worrying”, “terrifying”, and “bonkers”; the reactions of veteran scientists to the sharp increase in north Atlantic surface temperatures over the past three months raises the question of whether the world’s climate has entered a more erratic and dangerous phase with the onset of an El Niño event on top of human-made global heating.»

Next article from our group on plant-parasitic #nematode - Meloidogyne arenaria, in which we describe its candidate #effector protein MaMsp4,
its interactors from the host plant, gene expression and localization.

MaMsp4 interacts with host proteins involved in
• plant defense, namely with these taking part in biosynthesis of polyamines and phosphatidylethanolamine.

• plant cell modifications: beta-galactosidase 11, pectinesterase, and polygalacturonase

@gpollara @PhilippBayer @academicchatter When I spoke with Cori Bargmann for the EMBO podcast she suggested that one place biology could turn for inspiration in giving credit based on collective efforts was Big Physics:

The rate limiting incident in Twitter isn't really what pushed me over to use Mastodon more and more. Currently there is a hashtag on Twitter related to the French riots that's calling on the expulsion of all Muslim, African, and Arab immigrants from the entirety of Europe. The entirety and trending hashtag (at #2) is filled with images encouraging mass killings and lynchings of Arabs. There is no come back from this.
