LAG3 ICIs
"With this approval, LAG-3 became the third checkpoint inhibitor to show efficacy when targeted in the clinic, The response profile of Opdualag is comparable to the ipilimumab/nivolumab (anti-CTLA4/anti-PD-1) combination (47.7% versus 49% 12-month PFS), although 59% of patients had severe adverse events with ipilimumab/nivolumab compared with only 18.9% with Opdualag"

This is my experience of British immigrants in Spain who voted for #Brexit. People with no capacity for critical thinking. They voted for Brexit "because of the immigrants". Now they themselves lost their EU privileges, duh!
They were told both lies AND the truth & they chose the lies. Because they're idiots.
On the plus side EU has become an even nicer place to be because it's now less likely that you'll hear people like Greg from Winchester sounding off about the immigrants in UK.
Today in the Kleptocracy
Here is an important and well-reported piece about one oligarch seizing control of what should be a public commons. My only quibble is that the Times seems to think there’s some mystery about Musk’s political views. Surely not. He has made them clear. He is a right-wing extremist, anti-democratic and pro-authoritarian.

"Joining animals together, known as parabiosis, has a long history in science. In the 19th century, French scientists connected the blood vessels of two rats. To prove that the rats shared a circulatory system, they injected belladonna, a compound from the deadly nightshade plant, into one of the animals. The pupils of both rats dilated."

Hello to all of my lovely new followers 👋 I've been trying to make #AcademicTwitter work (I miss the good old days, so many great communities and learnings), but it's changed too much.
I'm an experimental social psychologist, mainly studying addictive behaviours & social cognition, and my true love is #openresearch 💜
I'm aiming to be posting more on here, & it feels good to be back!

The Texas state #GOP forcibly took control over the Houston ISD, and one of the first things they did was fire the librarians and turn the libraries into school jail.
It's utterly insane, but it's real.

BCMA targeting CARTs in #MultipleMyeloma
"At a median follow-up of 15.9 months (range, 0.1 to 27.3), the median progression-free survival was not reached in the cilta-cel group and was 11.8 months in the standard-care group (hazard ratio, 0.26; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.18 to 0.38; P<0.001). Progression-free survival at 12 months was 75.9% (95% CI, 69.4 to 81.1) in the cilta-cel group and 48.6% (95% CI, 41.5 to 55.3) in the standard-care group."

"Maps 1 & 4 The Conan Map (Brest, France, 16th Century)
This Renaissance print is a copy of a vellum drawn circa 1156 at the behest of Conan IV (“the Black”), Duke of Brittany, during a dynastic dispute with King Henry II of England, who was also Count of neighboring Anjou. As shown in the inset, the image’s purpose is solely to assert power and legitimacy. The multiple lines shown in the inset (the only remaining panel of a set of three) proclaim the conquest and rule of the corresponding regions by the Duke and his kinsmen in the House of Penthièvre."

You may have heard that Houston schools plan to convert libraries to disciplinary centers and fire the librarians.
What you may not have heard is that the State of Texas took over the Houston school district and installed its own superintendent.
That's the guy who is closing libraries. This is not something local residents want, and the superintended is not locally accountable,
A big problem is that the field has always been dominated by a focus on physics - whether or not you agree with it, a small book I recommend is Mayr's 'What Makes Biology Unique'
Comparing autoimmune disease and the autoimmune side effects of checkpoint inhibitor therapy.
'Here, we compared T cells from the joints of 20 patients with an inflammatory arthritis induced by ICI therapy (ICI-arthritis) with two archetypal autoimmune arthritides, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA).'

'Radick uses counterfactual history to perform an experiment. He outlines a curriculum for an introductory biology class that does not begin and end with Mendelian inheritance, but instead emphasizes developmental contexts. Students who took this class — Radick ran the experiment at the University of Leeds, UK — came away with a less gene-centred and a more enquiring approach to biology than did those who took a more Mendel-focused course (A. Jamieson & G. Radick Sci. Educ. 26, 1261–1290; 2017).'
I've worked on all of science, from B cells to T cells.
