'While more effective treatments are developed and someday may become more widely accessible, interventions that promote the personhood and well-being of persons living with dementia—as well as that of their care partners and caregivers—will remain integral to dementia care.'

a Portrait of Tenochtitlan, my 3D reconstruction of the capital of the Aztec Empire is released!
I've been looking forward to this for a long time, and I am really curious what all of you think.
Take a look:

This is about a writer's notebook (and most definitely *not* about a lab book).
"In my view, a good notebook should be at best partially legible - that’s what creates its mystique. It should actively repel the casual viewer, and exude a feral air that unsettles intruders. It should be a disorderly space, defiant of bourgeois convention; a rowdy heath instead of a tidy garden. Its dark magic lies in a series of collisions, the juxtaposition of thoughts that, in any ordinary space, would not go together. The result should be an unruly object, defying polite society."
@gpollara a whistleblower already said it’s been ignored since at least 2019
@Sheencr yes, this smells of U-turn in some way, especially if the problem expands to other schools/hospitals, and certainly if it drags on for longer.
And you can bet there's some investigative journalists working hard looking for the 'smoking gun' showing government wilfully ignored this.
Agree overall, not the last we've heard of this story....
Outrageous, this was pushed back and back, budgets were cut by Sunak and now they fess up they won’t allocate more cash from the existing (already reduced) budget. They have to backtrack on this one.
Jeremy Hunt under fire after Treasury says no new cash to fix Raac in schools
'It's a short list, but it's a big change, because Medicare up until now has been legally forbidden from negotiating drug prices at all, which is a situation that has never made a great deal of sense considering what happens with other national health care systems around the world.'

'The Webb data, though, revealed that some very large galaxies formed really fast, in too short a time, at least according to the standard model. This was no minor discrepancy. The finding is akin to parents and their children appearing in a story when the grandparents are still children themselves.'

'In a 2016 article for The Atlantic, Edward Simon explored the sci-fi that was published during and before the peak of the scientific revolution, including such novels as Thomas More’s Utopia, Francis Bacon’s New Atlantis, and Johannes Kepler’s Somnium. Literature helped spark curiosity as new scientific understandings were developing, he explained. “Science fiction alone did not inspire the scientific revolution, but the literature of the era did allow people to imagine different realities—in some cases, long before those realities actually became real,” Simon wrote.'

'Once Allende won—in spite of an American-funded campaign of misinformation that depicted him, a man of impeccable democratic credentials, as a Communist stooge—the next step was to try to stop his inauguration. A CIA-financed terrorist group killed General René Schneider, the commander in chief of the army, who was committed to the rule of law. When Allende was nonetheless sworn in on November 3, covert operations were launched to “make the economy scream,” per Nixon’s instructions.'

#KochNetwork wants to end access to the ballot for groups of Americans who persistently don't vote Republican.
Women, LGBTQ, immigrants, POC, non-Christians, the young, the poor, the middle class, the educated, the literate, the employed...
If #KochNetwork succeeds, the only people allowed to have a vote that matters will be 1000 oil, tech, & media billionaires, foreign & domestic.
#PutinThePoisoner and #PrinceBonesaw look forward to having an ever bigger say in US elections.
'Bipartisan support continued through three reauthorizations of the program. That ended this year, when Republicans took over the House with a slim majority that was beholden to the MAGA wing of the party, which has been looking for opportunities to damage any Biden administration priorities. PEPFAR became a target when the Heritage Foundation released a falsehood-ridden report in May saying the administration was using it as a “vehicle to promote its domestic radical social agenda overseas,” specifically abortion and L.G.B.T.Q. issues.'

'As a young psychologist, this chills me to my bones. Apparently is possible to reach the stratosphere of scientific achievement, to publish over and over again in “high impact” journals, to rack up tens of thousands of citations, and for none of it to matter.'

Well that didn't last long:
at the start of the day #JeremyHunt declared the #Tories would 'spend whatever it takes' to deal with the schools buildings crisis.... but by the end of the day it clear that actually there would be no new money & the Dept. Education would need to take the funds for remedial work from their existing budget(s).
So, yes (as I posted a couple of days ago), just one more Tory but of attrition on publicly funded #education.
Or perhaps better:
more bullish*t from Hunt

'Here, we reveal that gut commensal bacteria can translocate directly to the brain when mice are fed an altered diet that causes dysbiosis and intestinal permeability, and that this also occurs without diet alteration in distinct murine models of neurological disease. The bacteria were not found in other systemic sites or the blood, but were detected in the vagus nerve.'
