#IDMastodon #Cardioimmunology Inflammation plays a pivotal role in the development and progression of #CVD & #viralinfections are potential triggers of inflammation. Women have a 4x higher risk of dying from #CVD if they have an infection with a high-risk strain of HPV. The evidence that viruses in general and HPV in particular increase the risk of adverse outcomes from ASCVD has become compelling enough to add to the already strong case for #vaccination against #influenza 🦠 , #SARSCoV2, & HPV

'That probably nonexistent something is Yamagata, a lineage of influenza B viruses that hasn’t been spotted by global surveyors since March of 2020, shortly after COVID mitigations plummeted flu transmission to record lows.'

'Here, we present T-FINDER [T cell Functional Identification and (Neo)-antigen Discovery of Epitopes and Receptors], a system to rapidly deconvolute CD4 and CD8 TCRs and targets physiologically processed and presented by an individual’s unmanipulated, complete human leukocyte antigen (HLA) haplotype'

We are starting up our monthly “Classic papers in HIV ” journal club again where we discuss older papers that introduced something new which changed the field. This is the 3rd time around that we've done it, each time for about 10 months, a year break, and the start up again. Previous papers are here: https://research.fredhutch.org/emerman/en/courses/classic-papers-in-hiv-biology-journal-club.html . Its really fascinating talking about the hypotheses, the tools available at the time, and what came after.

"Imagine placing 50 flies in a bucket of soil. Some will fight and some will mate, but, for the most part, they will do their own thing."

'Twenty days after being infected with C. rodentium, only half of mice that had been bred to lack C3 survived. By contrast, all animals with normal C3 levels survived. Twelve days after infection, mice lacking C3 had lost, on average, more than 20% of their body weight, whereas those with normal C3 levels lost no weight.'
