"A wave of TCRs strongly but transiently expand during infection, frequently peaking the same week as the first positive PCR test. These expanding TCR CDR3s were enriched for sequences functionally annotated as SARS-COV-2 specific. Most epitopes recognized by the expanding TCRs were highly conserved between SARS-COV-2 strains, but not with circulating human coronaviruses"

"In Europe, a major concern is the fate of Twitter’s six-to-eight person team in Brussels, which worked on European policy and was the main point of contact with regulators working on upcoming legislation that could affect the entire platform. Only two people remain, say two people with knowledge of the matter.
That means Twitter has slashed its team as the European Union introduces landmark new technology rules, says Mathias Vermeulen, director of Brussels-based consultancy AWO"
Two #PhD positions available in my lab.
Tiny Mastodon newbie tip 🐘:
If there are some topics you would rather not see in your timelines anymore, for example a certain Birdsite, you can use Filters!
HOW TO ❓
1. On desktop, go to Preferences > Filters.
2. Click the “Add new filter" button on the upper right.
3. Then you can add things like “twitter.com/” or “Twitter” or “Birdsite” or something else or all of the above!
4. You can even set an expiration date if you think you'll want to hear about it again later on.
5. You will see these posts hidden as for Content Warnings and you will be able to click on “Show More” to see them OR you can enable “Drop instead of hide” or “Hide completely” in the options to not see anything at all in your timelines.
6. Enjoy! 😌

The life scientific is one of the most interesting scientific podcasts out there, featuring the life and discoveries of lots of interesting scientists.
The last episode is about Bambos Kyriacou, from the University of Leicester. For those who do not know him, Bambos is an excellent Drosophilist who has made unique contributions to the field of circadian rhythm. He is also super fun.
Do my listen to this if you haven't yet and pass it on to your students.

Cool #Science that explains how plants made the move from water to land 500 million years ago and were able to grow beyond just a few centimetres. The key is the evolution of xylem, the transport tissue in vascular plants that transports water and nutrients from the roots to the stem and leaves. To be able to grow without a high chance of blockages in their piping, plants had to rearrange their vascular tissue.
My department is hiring an Assistant Professor of Social Data Science! I would love for this job to go to someone knowledgeable about open science, reproducibility, and meta-science. Our department is fun, supportive, and has extensive expertise in structural equation modeling, Bayesian stats, regularization, text mining, meta-science, and research synthesis. The campus has a small forest, and the city can be easily reached from Utrecht, Rotterdam, even Amsterdam. https://tiu.nu/21154

We just posted a preprint proposing a new role for the 50-year old conundrum of phage-encoded tRNAs: insensitivity to host tRNA depletion by anticodon nucleases (e.g. VapC). Great data analysis and hypothesis building by @DaanFvdBerg

"Our analyses of the expression, chromatin accessibility, and methylation of chrX genes suggest that XIST+ male cancers display partial signatures of X chromosome silencing and also indicate an association between XIST activation and chrX copy number. "
