Skeletal muscle is the only interface our CNS has with the outside world. So it stands to reason that the CNS communicates with skeletal muscle through multiple mechanisms. In our new preprint biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/20 we show neuroinflammation activates a brain-muscle signaling axis that regulates muscle performance #myotwitter #muscle

#PhD students of #Mastodon, I have created a Mastadon group for sharing PhD-related posts using @phdstudents when posting a PhD student toot. Let's help the group to grow and share our PhD student experiences.

Hello People!

I am a Post-doc wrapping up its PhD at the Max-Plank Institute for Cell Biology and Genetics. I am currently working on , studying liver architecture establishment during mouse .

I mainly use microscopy and cell culture to understand how cells establish their polarity and contribute to overall tissue organization. I'm interested in and always looking forward to learning more on this topic.

Tools for off- the-shelf CARTs:

"Conventional CRISPR-Cas nucleases install sequence-specific DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs), enabling gene knock-out (KO) or targeted transgene knock-in (KI). However, simultaneous DSBs provoke a high rate of genomic rearrangements which may impede the safety of the edited cells. Here, we combine a non-viral CRISPR-Cas9 nuclease-assisted KI and Cas9-derived base editing technology for DSB free KOs within a single intervention."

"As with other 19th-century museums, the National Museum was a repository of items plucked, purchased or plundered from Indigenous communities and had presented the people themselves as curiosities, papier-mâché figures in dioramas alongside taxidermied animals. And sometimes worse. The biggest draw of an 1882 exhibition were living members of the Botocudo and Xerente tribes on display for the entertainment of visitors."

As Mastodon grows, and the number of people you follow increases, your feed will become busier and busier.

As the algorithm here depends purely on the time of tooting and retooting, it might mean you will miss a lot of content you were used to see if you are a part of the #twitterMigration.

You can make sure you never miss toots from certain people by including them in a #list!

This one I'd never heard of before:

'A new syndrome that is clinically like poliomyelitis was recognized in children in 2014, and it occurred in the United States in even-numbered years before Covid. This syndrome has subsequently been seen in many countries around the world and has been associated with enterovirus D68.'

"Our previous work established that Aedes (Ae.) aegypti larvae reared in microbe-rich environmental water are less susceptible to ZIKV as adults compared to cohorts reared in microbe-deficient laboratory tap water. Here, we explain the association by identifying a mechanism by which environment-derived microbes reduce susceptibility of Ae. aegypti for ZIKV."

Twenty-first century Lederberg.

"Sexual genetics is a powerful strategy for dissecting any biological process; however, it is not applicable to most bacteria. We have invented mass allelic exchange (MAE), which enables direct sexual hybridization between arbitrary strains of Escherichia coli (including pathogenic clinical isolates)."
