#Introduction. I'm a neurotechnologist and neuroscientist at Imperial College London (where I am Professor of Neurotechnology in the Dept of Bioengineering). My research focuses on understanding the neural coding of memory, and how it is impaired in memory disorders. Towards these goals I also develop new tools for neuroscience (multiphoton, data analysis, mouse behaviour etc). Outside science I'm into cycling (particularly gravel). #neuroscience #neurotechnology
Great NYT feature on Octavia Butler
“I’m a writer at least partly because I had access to public libraries,” she later reflected.
“I am also a product of librarians who read stories to groups of avid little kids.”

Very much looking forward to the ''Recognizing Preprint Peer Review' event organized by @ASAPbio, HHMI and EMBO on December 1 and 2 https://www.janelia.org/you-janelia/conferences/recognizing-preprint-peer-review. Make sure to sign up for online participation if you're interested in preprinting, preprint peer review and new approaches to recognizing and evaluating researchers and their work!
A bacterial driver of arthritis?
Autoantibodies are detected in people at risk for rheumatoid arthritis before development of clinical disease. The source of these autoantibodies is unclear.
“A bacterial strain from the Subdoligranulum genus associated with autoantibody development was identified. Mice colonized with this Subdoligranulum isolate developed arthritis…”
Jusqu'ici tout va bien
"With current global emission rates of 35 to 40 billion metric tons of CO2 each year, we may get our first glimpses of ice-free Septembers in the next 20 to 25 years, when we will have added another 800 billion metric tons to the atmosphere. Yet it does not stop there. Other months of the year will become ice-free with additional atmospheric CO2. For example, with another 1,800 billion metric tons of CO2, the Arctic will likely have no ice from July through October."

#Introduction I am an immunologist and science communicator. My research encompasses a few fields so my interests pretty wide- infection, microbiome, pollution and immunology-technically I am a barrier immunologist. I also feel strongly science is something everyone should be able to access and understand the basics so that they can make informed decisions and make a difference to their lives and my public engagement work tries to embody that with a co-production approach throughout.
”The disproportionate scientific productivity of elite researchers can be largely explained by their substantial labor advantage rather than inherent differences in talent.” http://scim.ag/AV
"Weybridge has always been a central resource of facilities and people. It has been placed in a perilous position by underfunding and crumbling facilities," he said. "Without support it is increasingly unlikely the UK could cope with another major outbreak of animal or zoonotic disease along with the ongoing avian influenza epidemic."
"A major challenge is that relatively few enhancers are functionally characterized in vivo, making it difficult to draw generalized conclusions about enhancer-promoter looping during developmental gene activation. Here, we investigate the 3D conformation of enhancers during mammalian development by generating high-resolution tissue-resolved contact maps for nearly a thousand mammalian enhancers with known in vivo activities in ten murine embryonic tissues. We performed enhancer knockouts in mice, which validated newly identified enhancer-promoter chromatin interactions. "

#introduction time!
Hi! I am Kees (he/him). I am a prof of theoretical #biophysics and dean of our dept. The birdsite opened my eyes to different experiences and perspectives of people very different from myself, and more than anything else I hope to continue learning and discussing about these here.
I am also a parent, a husband, a runner, and a talentless but persistent #bass player.
Oh and I love lame jokes. I am not kidding folks they are the literal worst 100% would not recommend.
Hello👋 I’m a research fellow and psychiatrist at the University of Cambridge. I work on interactions between the immune system, brain and behaviour esp using #ImmunoGenetics approaches. Interested in #biomarker discovery in psychiatry. Looking forward to discussions on here! #genomics #immunopsychiatry #neuroscience #neuroimmunology #introduction
Last week I heard a speech by Prof. Dame Sarah Gilbert. She of the Oxford vaccine. A woman whose team's work is calculated to have saved several million lives. She warned that Britain's dismal failure to remember, learn and expand on the hard fought achievements of the last few years placed us back to square one when (not if) it happened again.
This piece is a depressing demonstration of that.
Excited to share that our study on how cell-cell affinity between two cell lineages locally controls cell shapes and globally drives self-organization of an entire tissue is out now in Nature Communications.
#introduction - I'm a dual UK/US citizen and #scientist at University College London running a lab studying how #bacteria attack the host in #UrinaryTractInfection using novel human cell-based models. I'm also a novelist in the #LabLit genre, a science pundit/media expert, a science writer/communicator and a blogger at http://occamstypewriter.org/mindthegap/. I post about/am interested in science, art, culture, feminism, literature, linguistics/foreign languages, my garden and everything in between.

Hi all!
I am an engineer and software developer focused on #opensource tools for #neuroscience research, especially for extracellular #electrophysiology. Core developer of @spikeinterface.
Currently working with the Allen Institute of Neural Dynamics to build efficient and automated pipelines for large-scale ephys analysis. Also working part-time with CatlystNeuro, helping labs to adopt open-source and standard solutions for analysis and data storage.
I'm also interested in biophysical #modeling, #neurotechnology, and #multimodal approaches to probe neural activity.
Hey everyone! 👋 #introduction
I'm a PhD student in Biostatistics (& Computational Biology) at UC Berkeley. I am interested in statistical modeling and data analysis of single-cell RNA sequencing and imaging data, as well as CRISPR screening.
I’m excited about developing and applying models to learn new biology, esp. immunology and neuroscience.
#womeninstem #FirstGen
I've worked on all of science, from B cells to T cells.
