I am interested in using #NMR to understand biology, so my work varies from #biophysics #kinetics #dynamics #proteinfolding to #structuralbiology

An example of our collaborations, with @ak947 and @lapassmore where we showed that Fip1 dynamics are required for CPF activation. NMR was used to study the conformational dynamics of Fip1 within the 850-kDa CPF complex.

Interesting review: 'Lipid A heterogeneity and its role in the host interactions with pathogenic and commensal bacteria'

Published a few months ago, but missed it then.

As I recently joined, I would like to introduce myself. I am an Assistant Professor at Leiden University, where my group works on covalent inhibitors and chemoproteomic technologies to discover new targets for antibiotics. Next to sharing our science, I am striving to share thoughts on the scientific literature that I read with a focus on #ChemicalBiology, #Chemoproteomics and #Antibiotics. It would be great, if you follow me, if you are interested in these topics. universiteitleiden.nl/en/staff

#introduction

Hi all, I'm a PhD candidate at Yale University.

I am interested in host-parasite #coevolution in #microbial communities, especially #bacteria and #phage. I'm also interested in building high-throughput methods, both in the lab and in #rstats.

I use a combination of #ExperimentalEvolution and #MathematicalModeling throughout my work

Today is #TransDayofRemembrance when we honor and remember trans lives taken by violence. How horrifying that a deadly attack upon the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado Springs should occur right before this solemn day.
Hate isn’t born in us. It is taught. It must end.
This starts with our political leaders, who must cease their cynical attacks against our community before another attack occurs.
Call out the hate. Remind them of its consequences. Hold them to account.

"Through multiple lines of evidence, we show that differences in scientific labor drive substantial prestige-productivity inequalities, and the scientific dominance of elite universities can be explained by their substantial labor advantage over researchers at less prestigious institutions, primarily in disciplines where faculty lead and collaborate with a research group."

Great session hearing about the development of Cancer #Immunotherapy in Canada this morning at BioCanRx #Summit4CI

Rob Holt gave a very stimulating overview of their work on direct administration of CAR-Lentivirus for in vivo #CART. The take-home is that in vivo LV will be difficult to translate clinically, but maybe not impossible. He finished the talk to say that #mRNA LNP might still be the best approach for in situ CAR.

Looking forward to more talks!

Here’s my (required?) #introduction - I’m Tim, a #scientist living in #Austria working at the @istaustria near Vienna. I work on #neural_network_dynamics #plasticity #neurotheory. PhD w Larry Abbott at #brandeis and #columbia, postdoc w Wulfram Gerstner at #EPFL, 1st lab at #Oxford for 7 years before moving in 2020. Married to Ms Moon, w/ 3 daughters (a cat). I’ve been 20 years German, 1.5 Greek, 10 American, 4 Suisse, 7 British & 2 Austrian, sorta in that order. I #row #Am_I_doing_it_right?

Hi folks! Here is my #introductionpost. I am a #neuroscientist & #psychiatrist based in NYC. I started a lab at Columbia in 2021 focused on how #stress disrupts the #brain #circuits that govern social, cognitive & reward seeking #behavior. We use #electrophysiology & #optogenetics in freely moving mice to study how dynamic #neural activity, eg, #oscillations yield insight into #susceptibility #resilience #anhedonia & new treatments. I also post about #cooking. #twitterMigration #NeuroMastodons

"I am concerned that as COPE evolved from a small group of individuals committed to improving the integrity of research and publication to a corporate body with considerable expenses, COPE has become dependent on a few large publishing houses that bankroll it. Five major publishing houses provide half of COPE’s income."

"Within about a 48-hour period, a critical mass of scientists had gotten their bearings and Mastodon brio, and were finding each other. Even if Twitter pulls itself out of what looks like a possible death spiral, I can’t see us all ever going back."

'Vicky Phelan called herself a “stubborn bitch”. But the tenacity of the Irish cervical cancer campaigner, who has died aged 48, exposed one of the most shocking medical scandals in the country’s history.

Phelan highlighted the plight of more than 200 women like herself who were falsely told their cervical smear tests were normal and only learned years later — in her case, when she was already terminally ill — that the mistake had been discovered, but kept secret.'

A little introduction to what I do: My lab has demonstrated effects on autophagy, as well as other membrane-induction pathways, by poliovirus, rhinoviruses, and EV-D68. We have also published on the role of amphisome vesicles in promoting picornavirus particle maturation, the COPII and autophagic origins of viral RNA replication organelles. More recently we published on the roles of SNAP/SNARE proteins in virus maturation and release. #LoveVirology

#introduction I am Peggy Wei, an #NewPI (3 years old) at #DKFZ . I am also a mother with two children, and a cooking lover. We use #omics and #mousemodel to understand genome integrity and somatic mosaicism in the developing #brain. Other interests include but not limited to #neuropsychiatric disorders , #cancer origin, DNA #replication, #CNV, and #singlemolecule view of DNA damage. I transferred from the other server (@braingenome@scicomm.xyz) because I feel closer to genomics.

I'm a #neuroscientist in Singapore using #zebrafish to understand appetite control and gut-brain signaling pathways. Check out my lab at www.carolineweelab.com. My other hobbies are hanging out with my two cats, rock climbing, and swimming, but the former is to me wayyy more fun than the latter two :blobcat_pat: New to this app and still rather confused, but happy to try out something new!

POSTDOC alert: We're looking for a postdoctoral scientist to join our lab at Dartmouth! We study the neural basis of perception, memory, and neurodiversity using fMRI + VR.

Hello everyone! 👋
It's time for an #introduction !

I'm currently a postdoc in the Department of Biochemistry #Cambridge.
Previously, I studied (PhD+postdoc) #mitochondria #RNA #translation at the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit #Cambridge

I use wet and dry lab methods #genetics #genomeengineering #biochemistry #structuralbiology #cryoEM to address unsolved biological mysteries 👀

Outside of the lab, you can find me baking, doing photography, ceramics, oil painting and/or taking care of plants.

#introduction

OK, guess it's time.

:ablobwave: I'm Roby, I'm an ID doc at Mass General Hospital in Boston, and a PI with a lab at the Broad Institute that studies antibiotic resistance; and transcriptomics as a comprehensive, quantitative way to understand phenotype of microbes & immune systems under stress; and leverages that for molecular diagnostic development.

Pro: open science, nerdy paper summaries, dad jokes, tennis, coffee, vaccines, kindness, equity, sleep.

Con: AMR, pandemics.
