It’s foggy New Year’s Eve. I close out my five year term as editor in chief of @ASNAmNat
It’s been a wild ride and I have learned a great deal. I consider this both the most challenging and rewarding service. I have done so far in my career and I’m very glad I did it. Also, I am eager to move on to some new projects.

Have discovered the old Alec Guiness "Tinker, Tailem, Soldier, Spy" series is available complete on YouTube and it is, quite simply, magnificent.

Spotted while walking through @CentralParkNYC@twitter.com, a bench memorializing Dr. Li Wenliang, who sounded the alarm on COVID-19 three years ago.

We could now look at how exactly the cells encoded fish location. We started with area SLO-MO. Individual cells there showed fairly complex dynamics, but on top of that integrated visual velocity so they represented fish location. This also worked in 2D

The irritable substance does not forget.

Robert Caro's essentials
"2. My Typewriters I write my books not on a computer but on a Smith Corona Electra 210. They stopped manufacturing them about 30 years ago, but I have accumulated some. You need spares because when a part breaks on the one you’re using, you have to cannibalize the part from another one. When I have a book coming out, and newspaper profiles mention that I use them, people send me their old ones that were stored away years ago. Thanks to this generosity, I had 14 of them three years ago. I’m down to 11 already."
