Hoje agradeci os trabalhadores que limparam e reergueram o Palácio do Planalto em pouquíssimos dias, depois do estrago feito por vândalos. Esse é um patrimônio do povo brasileiro, de todos nós. Muito obrigado.

Immunity to the microbiota promotes sensory neuron regeneration
Here’s some cleared postnatal cerebellum #microscopy #EyeCandy to continue my #neuroscience #introduction. This image volume was acquired by Niraj Trivedi in my lab on an UltraMicroscope II. Magenta is the nucleus of all proliferating cerebellar granule #neurons in the external granule layer 🤩 These cells proliferate faster than a tissue culture cell line in a dish 🤯

Lots of questions about if future SARS-CoV-2 variants might be more or less severe.
I don’t have a crystal ball.
But in this thread, I’ll describe what happened w other rapidly evolving respiratory viruses after initial pandemic, & describe some relevant SARS-CoV-2 data.
Plot below shows mortality due to influenza virus in USA during and after 1918 H1N1 & 1968 H3N2 influenza pandemics.
Interactive version of plot is at https://jbloomlab.github.io/flu_mortality/ and data are taken from https://academic.oup.com/jid/article/178/1/53/919896
"However, binding and neutralization have poorly predicted protection in the past, and accumulating data across epidemiologic cohorts and animal models collectively point to a role for additional antibody Fc-effector functions. To begin to define the humoral correlates of immunity against RSV, here we profiled an adenovirus 26 RSV-preF vaccine-induced humoral immune response in a group of healthy adults that were ultimately challenged with RSV."
'The threat of this outbreak almost restarted efforts to test a new vaccine for the strain of Ebola that generated these infections. The work had previously been abandoned due to lack of financing, profit, and political will. The outbreak ignited a spark of hope, but it looks to have subsided before the vaccine trials could be implemented.'
"We have discovered the Caenorhabditis elegans homeodomain-interacting protein kinase (HPK-1) acts as a key transcriptional effector to preserve neuronal integrity, function, and #proteostasis during #aging."
" But once you experience #Mastodon, you suddenly realize just how much advertising, spam, and phishing you are being force-fed. I find Mastodon restful. Like the first time you realized that TV is possible without commercials. Also, because journalists and scientists are leading the charge to Mastodon, my feed seems to reflect a culture of knowledge, even leaning on peer-reviewed citations."

Some thoughts on core facilities.
1. These are enormous all-boat lifters if supported well.
2. They should be run by experts who are commensurately valued and supported. This is a career path. Include names on papers if they’ve contributed insight, even if fee-for-service. /1
