Absolutely fascinating history on why RA Fisher, one of the founders of statistics, refused to acknowledge that smoking causes cancer.
So many links to the COVID dynamics in the past few years, and the refusal of many to acknowledge causation based on observational data.

"In the current study, we compared three different formulations for saRNA, a cationic polymer (pABOL12), a lipid emulsion (nanostructured lipid carrier, NLC13), and three lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). We investigated the early inflammatory profile after immunization and explored how that related to downstream adaptive immune responses. We then explored the role of RNA sensing on the adaptive immune response to vaccination."

"The US National Science Foundation (NSF) has decided not to include a question about sexual orientation on one of its workforce surveys, setting off a social-media firestorm. More than 1,700 researchers have now signed an open letter urging the agency’s director to reconsider the decision. They argue that it is crucial to collect such information to understand the makeup of the scientific community and craft policies that lessen disparities for sexual minorities."

Is academia facing a massive burnout crisis?
Academics are increasingly "reevaluating whether their jobs are worth the high cost to their personal well-being. They are less willing to continue in positions with oversized workloads, salaries that do not keep up with inflation, and inflexible policies."
48% of universities report that faculty turnover is increasing and >70% of academics reported mental health difficulties in 2021.

"Colograph
The works presented here are created with alternative materials rather than etched on copper. From squashed paper costumes to packaging and leather book covers, objects are inked with different processes, both intaglio and planographic. Scales vary and are usually life-size. The paper costume prints are mostly made from real costumes (with the exception of the long dress, which is a smaller scale model) , worn by actors in a film project and subsequently smashed, inked and printed on cotton paper."

"Loss of function screens using shRNA and CRISPR are routinely used to identify genes that modulate responses of tumor cells to anti-cancer drugs. Here, by integrating GSEA and CMAP analyses of multiple published shRNA screens, we identified a core set of pathways that affect responses to multiple drugs with diverse mechanisms of action."
