I'm amazed I never knew of this early #entomology publication from 1634, Insectorum sive minimorum animalium theatrum: biodiversitylibrary.org/page/3

The illustrations are often very recognisable and well-observed. There's no English Wikipedia page for the book itself. German Wikipedia has one: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insector

If we expect researchers to adopt open science practices, we should of course also reward them for doing so.

Are you interested in open-science-aware responsible research assessment? Consider joining the @graspos Community of Practice on Open Science and Responsible Research Assessment graspos.eu/community-of-practi.

Our kick-off meeting will be on October 18!

"Equity, Inclusion, Access, and Justice in Biology Education"

There is an urgent need in biology education – and in the life sciences more broadly – to move from discussions of “diversity” and “broadening participation” that primarily attend to numerical representation towards research and reform targeting structures, systems, and cultural assumptions.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away an outbreak of pneumocystis in our Rag colony led Jocelyne, Shohei & me to show that Tregs protect the lung from immunepathology in the course of an anti pathogen response.

@PLOSBiology Interesting: "In conclusion, peer review in journals with higher impact factors tends to be more thorough, particularly in addressing study methods while giving relatively less emphasis to presentation or suggesting solutions. Differences were modest and variability high, indicating that the Journal Impact Factor is a bad predictor of the quality of peer review of an individual manuscript." #PeerReview

Excited to be part of the Pueblo Brian Science "Specification of Complex Behaviors" workshop in New Mexico. Curious if people would be interested in toots describing what people are thinking about here?
pueblobrainscience.org/worksho let me know with a boost or a reply pls.
I expect there will be plenty of insights at the interface of #development #devbio and #neuroscience

Grateful for @Co_Biologists support!

“when it comes to redistribution, views about fairness are divided into two: ‘redistribution from’ and ‘redistribution to’… Cavaillé…argues that the way most people think about fairness when thinking about taking away is rather different to fairness when giving to others… attitudes about ‘redistribution from’ tend to go along economic left/right lines, but attitudes about ‘redistribution to’ are more correlated with socially liberal or conservative mindsets.” @sjwrenlewis mainlymacro.blogspot.com/2023/
