"Just last Sunday, one of the estimated 20 surviving bicorne hats worn by Napoleon was sold at auction for €1.9mn, a price that vindicates the famous epigram, attributed to the emperor among others, that there is but one step separating the sublime from the ridiculous. The hat buyer remains anonymous, but you imagine him trying it on in front of a full-length mirror, probably with one hand in his jacket."

"Led by German expert Stefanie Haustein, a group of scientists has now calculated the turnover of the “oligopoly” that controls this new market. Using mainly public funds, the scientific community paid the five large publishers $1.06 billion in four years. And according to this estimate, the sum covers only the fees to publish open access studies."

"Interestingly, residual Omenn Syndrome lymphocytes display characteristics proper of embryonic lymphocytes that emerge before, and independently from, hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). This prompted us to hypothesize whether Omenn Syndrome autoreactive T-cells are generated in the embryo independently from HSCs."

'As of 2022, no journal published in Latin America appears in lists of the world’s publications with the highest impact factors; these journals are more vulnerable to economic conditions, and even closure. Spending years of work on research only to publish in a journal that will “die quickly” because it has no readership, Artaxo said, is a “waste of time, money, and everything.”

"Whether and how microglia surveillance is coupled to brain state switches during natural sleep-wake cycles remain unclear. To address this question, we used miniature two-photon microscopy (mTPM) to acquire time-lapse high-resolution microglia images of the somatosensory cortex, along with EEG/EMG recordings and behavioral video, in freely-behaving mice."

"In this brief review, we present and summarize the data describing how newly described enhancers located within the large V gene portion of Igκ and Igh loci work as a higher-order mechanism for the regulation of the Ab repertoire formation by regulating chromatin interactions and epigenetic milieu, which in turn alter the 3D chromatin topology of the loci."
