"We generated mice for the B cell–conditional expression of the most frequent BTG1 mutation [Gln36→His (Q36H)]. Btg1Q36H cells almost completely outcompeted their wild-type counterparts, specifically in the GC. This competitive fitness manifested as a stronger induction of MYC-dependent growth programs."

"For these reasons, we hypothesize that PTMs could have been selected throughout evolution at the flanks of aggregation-prone regions as an intrinsic factor to protect proteins against aggregation, thus expanding the current repertoire of aggregation gatekeepers."
"Fanon wrote at the height of the Cold War, but, with no less prescience, he regarded the East-West struggle as a passing sideshow, of far less consequence than the divisions between North and South, of the rich world and the poor world. If the colonial world was, in his words, “a world cut in two,” our postcolonial world seems scarcely less so. Just consider the starkly different responses to the wars in Ukraine and Gaza — or South Africa’s case against Israel, on the charge of genocide — in the global north and the global south."

“If you have growing numbers of researchers who are being strongly incentivised to publish just for the sake of publishing, while we have a growing number of journals making money from publishing the resulting articles, you have a perfect storm,” said Professor Marcus Munafo of Bristol University. “That is exactly what we have now.”

'Uma marcha sobre Lisboa, contra a sua islamização e com tarjas anunciando que vão “reconquistar Lisboa aos Mouros”, só não é caricato porque sabemos o que querem, mas faz lembrar aquela vez em que um grupo de nazis portugueses foi à Alemanha conviver com os seus congéneres e foram expulsos, por serem mouros'

“We can still fix the housing crisis: here’s how”
Excellent article in The Star that covers the causes of Toronto’s housing crisis. From insufficient supply of both non market and market housing, to cessation of purpose built rental, to services downloaded from feds and provide, to increased immigration.
Points to Sweden having had similar crisis in early ‘60s. Solved by ambitious 10 year housing plan.

"If we want to understand leadership, and how it works in the world, should we be looking primarily at the ways the leader changed the world? Or should we focus on the ways in which the world produced, and then constrained, the leader?"

What’s in your prenatal vitamins?
“Some supplements are needed, and prenatal vitamins are one of the best examples. Unfortunately, they are also a great example of why products need to be tested and safe because pregnant people shouldn’t have to play folic acid, vitamin, and heavy metal roulette. We need more studies to understand how common contamination is with these products and how often they deviate from the amounts listed on the labels”
