👋

I am a neuroscientist interested in the circuit dynamics of adaptive but reliable visually guided behavior.

In our group at the U Bonn, we study

- the stabilization of the neural code in visual perception, learning, and memory

- the pathway-specific processing of sensory and self-motion signals

We emphasize ethologically relevant behavior, longitudinal synapse- and circuit-level optophysiology, and miniaturized and bench-top two-photon microscopy.

"Earlier this week, I wrote about the history of progressive math education, the culture wars it has inspired over the past hundred years, and the controversy over the California Math Framework. Today, I want to start with a much broader question: What do we really know about how to teach math to children?"

"PANoptosis is a unique form of innate immune inflammatory cell death that is regulated by multifaceted PANoptosome complexes, which are triggered by innate immunity and assembled by integrating components from other PCD pathways. The totality of biological effects in PANoptosis cannot be accounted for by pyroptosis, apoptosis, or necroptosis alone."

Hi everyone! This my #introduction

I am a #neuroscientist based in Marseille (France).

After a PhD in NYC with JL Pena, and a postdoc in the lab of Zach Mainen and the #InternationalBrainLab, I recently joined the #cnrs as a tenured researcher.

My work combines #experimental and #computational approaches to study the neural dynamics of flexible behavior in mice. My research is supported by the Simons Collaboration on the Global Brain (#SCGB).

It is very nice that everyone introduces her-/himself on Mastodon, so I wanna do the same!

I am Stefan Stricker, a Professor at LMU and a group leader at the Helmholtz Institute in Munich, working on everything that really determines what a cell is and can be, such as TFs, Chromatin and structural features. I really like #epigenomeEditing #scSeq and #CRISPRa
... Nice to meet you all!

"Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) have a long but somewhat convoluted history in drug discovery. The idea seems straightforward, though: combining the extraordinary selectivity and long half-lives of antibody proteins with the target-directed effects of a small-molecule drug. In practice, as is so often the case, it’s Not So Simple."

Brontësaurus. This bit of silliness from 2014 was too irresistible a pun, and became my not at all serious attempt to bridge my #Literature audience with my #palaeoart one.

When I first shared the drawing, it met with a welcome but modest reception. Over the years, it became mildly viral when others reposted it, uncredited, in various places.

I imagined her as Charlotte #Brontë, but of course, she could be any Brontë sister you choose.

"In 2009 Hockney began “drawing” this view on his iPhone (above), with just his thumb. “There was great advantage in this medium because it’s backlit and I could draw in the dark,” he writes in MY WINDOW (Taschen, $150), a collection of 120 digital still lifes he completed between 2009 and 2011. Plus, he never had to leave his bed."

What would you like them to know? What would you like them to do?

"One of the last masterpieces of German Jewish culture, Lion Feuchtwanger’s 1933 novel “The Oppermanns,” offers its own version of Tarfon: “It is upon us to begin the work. It is not upon us to complete it.” Superficially, “The Oppermanns” is a novel about the decline and fall of a bourgeois German Jewish furniture dynasty whose members are unable to countenance the rising threat of National Socialism. It is also, in a way, a novel about this phrase, which recurs in its pages like a psychological test or a trial of identity."
