Whether you call it a surge, a spike, a wave or perhaps just a wavelet, there are signs of a rise in #SARSCoV2 infections again.

Wow. Hindawi is terminating four journals that had been used as dumping grounds for paper mills.

Impressive work by @deevybee who uncovered this mess in the first place.
Yes, in the olfactory system of #Drosophila, projection neurons respond with the derivative of the olfactory input, albeit somewhat meddled with intensity too (and further confounded by habituation). Useful to navigate odour gradients. See:

This week, I highlight the work of Zhu et al. in Nature Immunology. The authors examined the effects of stress on the gut microbiota in mice and found that changes in a Lactobacillus species were associated with increased numbers of IL-17-secreting gamma-delta T cells in the gut. These cells migrated to the meninges and were associated with changes in behavior. Targeting this axis may have therapeutic benefits for patients with depression. 'However, these tumours often progress without therapy, which suggests the activation of mechanisms that trigger functional impairment of, or resistance to, antitumour immune responses. Indeed, a recent study showed that cyclic GMP–AMP synthase (cGAS)–stimulator of interferon genes (STING) activation in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells with chromosomal instability induced an interleukin-6 (IL-6)-dependent inflammatory response that promoted the survival of cancer cells'
