"We showed that treatment with an agonist against the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily member CD40 in combination with a soluble β-glucan (BG), which targets the C-type lectin receptor (CLR) Dectin-1, was sufficient to trigger productive immunosurveillance in ICB-resistant mouse models of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma."

"A médica recorda que o nosso país "tem estatuto de baixa incidência a nível a mundial, mas é o que tem a incidência mais elevada na Europa Ocidental", e esta situação não pode ser esquecida."
'Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has launched a national consultation in which he links further EU aid to Ukraine to Brussels unblocking funds for his own country, at a moment when Kyiv is struggling to secure future support from its western allies.'

Fun facts about #Texas. Elon Musk's foundering social-media platform is neither incorporated nor headquartered there. But that's where he has chosen to sue Media Matters (based in Washington, DC), and that's where the state's attorney general—currently under indictment and out on bail—is using taxpayer money to support him.
Interesting mix:
"She discusses famous nineteenth-century figures such as Rudolf Virchow, the German physician widely credited as the founder of modern pathology, and Elie Metchnikoff, the Russian zoologist who discovered how white blood cells neutralize invading bacteria, as well as less familiar researchers like Ruslan Medzhitov, Gökhan Hotamışlıgil, and Luigi Ferrucci."

A new preprint discussing "The evolutionary puzzle of human twinship"
"We propose that a historical dynamic of gene-culture coevolution might explain...the sizeable variation in twinning rates observed between human populations"
"However, in our large study, including over 1000 patients with metastatic breast cancer undergoing genomic sequencing, after accounting for the confounding factor of ER expression, we did not identify any significant difference in gene mutations, CNV, nor in TMB between HER2-low and HER2-0 breast tumors, except for a higher ERBB2 copy count expectedly found in HER2-low tumors."
"Here, we present key findings, procedures, effective measures and recommendations for generating and establishing sustainable life science resources based on the collaborative, cross-disciplinary work done within the EOSC-Life (European Open Science Cloud for Life Sciences) consortium."
Nooooo!
"Stop-motion animation studio Aardman is running out of clay, it has emerged. According to a report in the Daily Telegraph, Aardman has been left with enough animation clay for one more feature film after the manufacturers of its favourite material closed down earlier this year."

"In 1987 Reagan appointed a presidential commission on the epidemic, composed of cronies and cranks ‘whose lack of experience was matched by their reckless beliefs’, France writes: it included a New York cardinal, a supporter of quarantine laws for PWAs, and a proponent of the toilet seat theory. When, against the odds, and thanks to the unforeseen (even by him) leadership of James Watkins, a retired admiral, the commission produced a wide-ranging report of 576 recommendations, one of which was to triple the federal budget to $20 billion (‘seven tenths of 1 per cent of the defence budget’), Reagan ignored it."

Born in 1918, Gertrude Elion faced discrimination in #science, unable to get a job as a woman. So she volunteered as a lab dishwasher, earning enough $ for grad work at NYU, where she was the only woman in chemistry classes.
Eventually Elion helped revolutionize medicine w George Hitchings. They figured out how to interfere with cell growth, leading to effective drugs for treating leukemia, gout, malaria, herpes & more, earning a 1988 Nobel Prize. https://www.acs.org/education/whatischemistry/women-scientists/gertrude-elion.html #HistoryRemix #history
Indian Physicist C.V. Raman died #OTD in 1970.
Using a spectrograph that he developed, he and his student K. S. Krishnan discovered that when light traverses a transparent material, the deflected light changes its wavelength and frequency. This phenomenon, a hitherto unknown type of scattering of light, was subsequently termed the Raman effect or Raman scattering. Raman received the 1930 Nobel Prize in Physics. via @wikipedia

"Human cells express TRIM5α that restricts HIV-1. HIV-1 M evolved to escape this restriction by binding cyclophilin A (CYPA) to the viral core. Our data indicate that nonpandemic HIV-1s are sensitive to human TRIM5α."

"Safety teams within the company pushed to slow things down. These teams worked to refine ChatGPT to refuse certain types of abusive requests and to respond to other queries with more appropriate answers. But they struggled to build features such as an automated function that would ban users who repeatedly abused ChatGPT. In contrast, the company’s product side wanted to build on the momentum and double down on commercialization."
