Educators spend their days in rooms filled with young people. It can be a glorious existence, it can be a dreary existence. It is an existence dedicated to providing those young people with experiences that prepare them for an unknowable future.

This small piece of cuneiform (2000-1595 BC), represents details of a child's birth certificate of Sumerian age. Document identifies gender of newborn and name of its parents, in addition to stamp of child's clay foot, representing footprint. [720x662]

I’m seeing long-time Mastodon folks asking people to please PLEASE use CW on posts about political topics and then I’m seeing almost no one actually do that. It’s so important to keep up with the culture of this space that was established long before many of us got here. Just use the CW!!

This is kind of an odd thing to post but I really want to emphasise how important it is to have political content behind a CW tag, and not boost posts that don’t adhere to that convention. Same thing applies with images and alt text. For those of us who have moved over from twitter I think it’s important that we pay attention to this. Mastodon isn’t twitter and we should really try to think carefully about how we interact here

Some people think Mastodon is too weird to become popular:

I joined Twitter in 2008. We had to put a "d" in front of a tweet to convert it to a direct message and every other day you had some embarrassing private moments exposed because someone forgot about the “d”. Hashtags were just a community hack, introduced by Chris Messina to somehow tag content. Search? Hah, you wish! Tweets via SMS were supposed to be a thing. Oh, and the daily meet and greet with the failwhale. Totally not weird.
