what’s next [after the equality act]? racial identity? can someone identify as a minority [for benefits]? i mean we’ve already seen it happen — David Freiheit

@icedquinn Personally I think we are going about it backwards.. we shouldnt be treating women, or minorities as special groups or give them special treatment (regardless of if they face unique challenges), therefore problem solved, be a minority if you want, who cares.

That isnt that there is no problem or that the problem isnt to be solved. But if we solve the problem for all poor, for example, then by extension we are already helping challenged groups (who are more likely to be poor) as a result.

@freemo in the case of gendered sports its literally because women are, en masse, scientifically, inferior to the point they can't compete.

it's not "men's sports" and "women's sports," they are "sports leagues" and "women's leagues" for the reason of you have potentially 300m citizens in the USA and there are maybe <100 slots to put in the sports league.

the womens leagues are a concession so they can play sports at all.

this is why the whole 'no trans in womens sports' is a big deal.
@icedquinn @freemo if we had to give up women's sports leagues and have tranny bathrooms in order to wipe out all discriminatory race and sex based affirmative action programs, i would be 100% for it

@meowski

You wouldnt.. transexuals and transgendered people do not want their own bathrooms or an elimination of sports leagues all together.. They want to be included, not to have other excluded.

@icedquinn

@freemo @meowski @icedquinn stop pandering to the mentally ill. But we both know you don't have a choice, the cultists have taken over academia and made your entire world a clown world joke, how embarrassing :^)

@crunklord420

I wonder if you realize how pathetic you look when you talk like that.. probably not. You sound like a nut job who is so messed up and miserable all they have left in life is to try to troll random strangers they dont know and hope someone for once will at least acknowledge you...

get a life.

@icedquinn @meowski

@freemo @crunklord420 @icedquinn not this shit again. didn't we just teach you about primary sex determination last week?

@meowski

I remember a few people adding some good points and then a bunch of morons who cared more about some religious or obnoxious agenda and prejudice than facts.

I dont remember which one you were, so likely didnt say anything new or remarkable

Also that conversation and post was not about primary sex characteristics, it was about sex, as a whole.

@icedquinn @crunklord420

@meowski

Must be great living in a world that is that simple.. wish it were more than a fantasy, would make my job much easier.

@icedquinn @crunklord420

@freemo @icedquinn @crunklord420
this is a pretty good breakdown of the progressive libtard criteria for intersex. true intersex is actually far less common than progressives claim

https://colinwright.substack.com/p/intersex-is-not-as-common-as-red

@meowski

"true intersex"... lol your literally pulling the no true scotsman fallacy right now. I love how you just get to dictate what "true intersex" is and all of science and professionals who life is devoted to this stuff be damned.

Move along your wasting my time.

@icedquinn @crunklord420

@freemo @icedquinn @crunklord420 true intersex, as in genuinely neither male nor female. non binary.

you should stick to computer science or whatever you're supposedly an expert at. you're talking out your ass as usual

@meowski

Actually biology is one of the fields I have a degree in, and I worked on the human genome project and other projects in the field (most the genetics side).. though I would not really call myself a biologist either. But I do have more than enough credentials and professional expiernce in the field to understand the topic.

What were your credentials, I dont recall, like i said I dont even remember you saying anything in the past on this topic particularly insightful or meaningful so I dont recall much about your expertise.

@icedquinn @crunklord420

@freemo @icedquinn @crunklord420 i do bioinformatics. you don't need to worry about my credentials. i'm not here to impress you with letters after my name

@meowski

I dont care about the letters after your name, I care about what skills you have proven yourself to have. That can be in the form of published scientic articles, peer-review, recognition of accomplishments by professionals, or involvement as a member of a project in the field... credentials are a lot more than some letters.

I am literally asking you "have you accomplished anything in your life to show you have expertise in this topic"... sounds like your answer is no then

@icedquinn @crunklord420

@freemo @icedquinn @crunklord420 why would i post anything about myself irl here on fedi with a bunch of deranged libtards here who go ballistic when you say anything as simple as sex is determined at conception
@meowski @freemo @icedquinn don't you know science is a process of comparing ranks in the cathedral? kek
@meowski @crunklord420 @freemo @icedquinn I worked in clinical research, can confirm.
Everyone wants to discover something new and unintuitive, so validating someone else's finding is a rare sight, and the confirmation bias is real.
Not to mention that intuition, being a product of millions of years of evolution, isn't often wrong, so when you see a study with some fantastic find that seems too good to be true... it isn't true.
@SystemSock @meowski @crunklord420 @freemo we are ultimately forced to make continuous decisions before we have all the data we would like and we are in a permanent state of having to make binding decisions with imperfect information.
Follow

@icedquinn

The system isnt perfect and yes there are biases, its fine to be critical and not treat a published study as god and truth... no issues there.. But when you assume all studies are crap, even ones where there is complete consensus, and you do so with no evidence or expeirnce of your own, then your just foolish in the other direction.

As you said, its the best system we have so far, and while anti-science is coming up with nonsense like a 4000 year old earth, and the world being flat science is still right far more often than the alternative.

It really just comes down to understanding where the line is between reality and fringe science that **may** be true but has a lot of unknowns.

@meowski @crunklord420 @SystemSock

@freemo @icedquinn @meowski @SystemSock the consensus mechanisms of academia is completely broken and if you bet against peer reviewed papers you'd be right more than 50% of the time. It's literally worse than a coin flip, how embarassing.
@crunklord420 @freemo @SystemSock @icedquinn
there really is a crisis of junk science in academia right now, it's a disaster. this is another famous case- amgen pharmaceuticals attempted to reproduce a large number of drug studies and found that most of them were not reproducible- particulary with cancer drugs, they could only reproduce a pathetic 11%

https://sitn.hms.harvard.edu/flash/2013/house-of-cards-is-something-wrong-with-the-state-of-science/

we will look back on this pseudoscience of transgenderism as a dark age for science
@meowski @SystemSock @freemo @icedquinn we never left the dark ages, especially in the fields of psychology/sociology. We pretend like it's better now, but have we gone more than 30 years without a massive upset of the entire field of psychology/sociology? If you're in these fields you will always be denounced as agents of harm by the next generation, always.
@crunklord420 @SystemSock @freemo @icedquinn psychology and psychiatry are fairly new fields. they both lack the underpinnings that would even define them as sciences, imo.

neurology is interesting and important for the treatment of some mental illnesses and neurological disorders, but i say overall we'd be better off throwing the entirety of psych fields into the trash
@crunklord420 @meowski @SystemSock @freemo @icedquinn
psychology and sociology are completely junk fields of science to begin with.

the kinds of experiments you would have to do to actually learn how the human brain works would never pass any ethics board.
@meowski @crunklord420 @SystemSock @freemo @icedquinn yup

People seem to forget that china and Russia also had departments full of junk science about Marxist studies. And if you said something that questioned Marxist principles in Russia, you quickly found it very hard to work as an academic, so people learned very fast not to publish inconvenient facts... While others became very prestigious by publishing desirable papers, true or no.

It's exactly the same now in the USA, just not for Marxism.
@fluffy sure there are papers like "why most research findings are false." but what kind of argument tact does citing it actually consist of?

@meowski @SystemSock @crunklord420 @freemo
@icedquinn @fluffy @SystemSock @crunklord420 @freemo
one of our main issues to overcome now is the failure to publish negative results. there is an extreme bias against publishing negative results both in the financial world and also in the academic prestige assocaite with a positive result vs a negative result

pharma companies take full advantage of this, they will do a study 10x with small sample sizes and publish the one anomalous result that fits their agenda, while burying the other 9.

there are all sorts of ways of manipulating the data by subsampling and buring what you don't want published

a lot of it is outright fraud. some of it is just the fact that publishing a negative result carries the risk of exposing your own mistakes

but anyway we do have some systemic biases to deal with
@meowski i came up through parapsychology so the publication of null results is one of those things that was always funny to see argued about.

@SystemSock @crunklord420 @fluffy @freemo

@meowski because the results are so contentious there is basically up front and unavoidable having to deal with every conceivable safeguard and counter that exists: appeals to the file drawer effect, biases from a lack of pre-registration, outright statistical fraud, mistakes in the paper, methodology that can’t even detect the conditions its looking for, replication, null replication, …

the weird part is its considered by many to be ‘not science’ even though i almost never see ‘real science’ cover half of those problems :blobcatwut:

@SystemSock @crunklord420 @fluffy @freemo

@meowski problem is when it comes to argumentation there is basically no difference between

you're wrong because i say so, and,
you're wrong because a lot of papers are wrong and therefore i want this one to be too

@SystemSock @crunklord420 @fluffy @freemo
@icedquinn @SystemSock @crunklord420 @fluffy @freemo
it takes some amount of self confidence to be able to simply say "i couldn't reproduce this result" and let the chips fall where they may
@meowski i heard this was because journals don't want to carry replications and so there was no glory under publish or perish.

@SystemSock @crunklord420 @fluffy @freemo
@icedquinn @SystemSock @crunklord420 @fluffy @freemo
it's definitely not as sexy as a positive result for various reasons

but there's always the possibility that inability to reproduce is just a shortcoming in the lab's ability to perform the experiment correctly

so people are hesitant to do this then appear incompetent if others are able to reproduce it
@meowski reminds me of clive backster and beneviste's weird claims that people wouldn't follow the directions for and then would make claims about the replications.

"make sure the room is empty and nobody goes it at any time for one week, also don't look inside the room."

"so here's where our intern went in to water the plants twice a week"

:blabcatverifiedfake:

@SystemSock @crunklord420 @fluffy @freemo
@icedquinn @SystemSock @crunklord420 @fluffy @freemo
and frankly, spending the time to prove someone else's experiment wrong is not really a discovery in the sense that a postive result is. it's not sexy and people don't go after that the way they go after new discoveries
@meowski in theory you shouldn't be trying to prove its wrong. you're supposed to be trying to build the cool thing in the paper and then it ends up not working :blobcatnervous2: @SystemSock @crunklord420 @fluffy @freemo
@icedquinn @SystemSock @crunklord420 @fluffy @freemo true and i'm just saying replicating someone else's experiment is important but not sexy, that's the only point.
@crunklord420 @SystemSock @fluffy @freemo @icedquinn
a lot of them are. but there are still a few gems out there in the academic world. the head of the cancer lab i worked at a few years back was one of them, he made an important discovery about cancer and did numerous experiments to validate it
@meowski @SystemSock @fluffy @freemo @icedquinn all the PIs I know are clueless retards who are more accurately described as politicians.
@crunklord420 @SystemSock @fluffy @freemo @icedquinn i won't disagree. there is a massive glut of parasite academics just suckling at the teat of the federal government and adding nothing the body of scientific knowledge
@icedquinn @SystemSock @crunklord420 @fluffy @freemo
a negative result isn't really a null result imo. it's a meaningful result. a postitive result can easily be a mistake as well
@meowski @icedquinn @SystemSock @crunklord420 @freemo Yup, exactly this.

And it doesn't have to be sample size, there are plenty of ways to use slight of hand. If you follow current events, you're familiar with the handling of the remarkable Vitamin D results by Nogués et al[1], and the follow-up "debunking" from Brazil, where they used an inactivated form of it to purportedly debunk a result on the activated vitamin D. effectively burying what was one of the most promising and affordable treatments for covid for purposes we can only guess at.

1. https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3771318#
@fluffy @SystemSock @crunklord420 @freemo @icedquinn

"removed due to concerns"

like threatening vaccine profits and the global hoax lockdown narrative

no profit in telling people to supplement with vitamin d which is well known to support immune fuction, and many people are deficient in
@meowski viva frei's wife is apparently a neurologist and facebook has the censors set so high that experts aren't even allowed to tell people to take vitamin d for other reasons because it will ban the post for opposing gatesthink.
@fluffy @SystemSock @crunklord420 @freemo
@icedquinn @SystemSock @crunklord420 @fluffy @freemo
the one comfort in all this is people who are more likely to buy into medical disinfo are less likely to reproduce cause they'll be less healthy and die sooner.
@icedquinn @SystemSock @crunklord420 @fluffy @freemo
....or maybe they'll just be retarded and pop out 10 kids to be supported by my tax money... could go either way

i need to take a shower
@icedquinn @meowski @SystemSock @fluffy @freemo hilarious considering doctors in general are told that most people are vitamin D deficient.
@crunklord420 as I recall the WHO itself said that most people in the world are deficient in D.

But telling anyone to take vitamins is wrongthink. :cirno_shrug:

@SystemSock @fluffy @freemo @meowski
@icedquinn @SystemSock @fluffy @freemo @meowski these are the same people who conveniently forgot about germ theory while an unknown disease was spreading across the globe and it took them nearly 5 months to rediscover it.

@icedquinn

LOL your wasting your time on these people.. my 24 hour mute just expired and after seeing the load of complete trash and that they havent shut up for 24 hours (apparently even trying to talk to me when i clearly muted them) they just want attention. They are going right back on mute...

You are wasting your time even talking to them, you are a fair bit brighter you could spend that time on better pursuits, actually learning something rather than just getting dumber.

They arent worth your time, let them do their circle jerk, clearly they dont listen to or need anyone else to have their conversations anyway.

@meowski @crunklord420 @fluffy @SystemSock

@icedquinn @meowski @crunklord420 @fluffy @SystemSock

Not referring to **everyone** tagged by the way.. should be obvious to everyone which ones I'm referring to.

@freemo @icedquinn @meowski @fluffy @SystemSock we're having a discussion about science, nothing you'd be interested in. It's pretty much out of your league.

@crunklord420

Funny, you've literally been tagging me and directly addressing me for 24 hours even when you knew i couldnt see it.. but now all of a sudden your going to act like you havent been swinging on my dick for 24 hours... HAHAHAHA have fun with that, at least someone is acknowledging you exist, must make you feel good... back to mute for you.

@icedquinn @meowski @fluffy @SystemSock

@freemo @icedquinn @meowski @fluffy @SystemSock nigga you cope so hard. You are terrified, you can't even begin to respond. Your behavior is self-demonstraing. You are a mindless slave and I have no intention or hope of "convincing" you of anything because you're not allowed to think critically. It's all a show and you're just a prop.
@crunklord420 @freemo @SystemSock @fluffy @icedquinn freemo has not posted one bit of factual information in this entire thread. it's 100% look at my credentials and insults
@crunklord420 @SystemSock @fluffy @freemo @icedquinn
come on freemo i'm trying to find one scientific fact or citation you've posted on the actual topic at hand in this thread. can't find anything.
@meowski @SystemSock @fluffy @freemo @icedquinn people like freemo are dime a dozen, not even a dime considering the endless hordes unpaid/barely paid grad students that fuel the academic industrial complex. It's practically slavery with how these people are basically unemployable in the real world are the sunk cost fallacy is overwhelming.
@crunklord420 @SystemSock @fluffy @freemo @icedquinn people like him will get tenure and retire in comfort though. this system rewards obedience

@meowski

Tenure? Retire in comfort? You really have no clue what I do for a living do you... I am not in academia, LOL, never once said I was... I have volunteered my time to contribute to peer review and published peer-reviewed stuff from time to time, but not funded with or connected with academia in anyway, I do that out of my own self-funded home lab. I am self-funded.

@SystemSock @icedquinn @crunklord420 @fluffy

@freemo @SystemSock @icedquinn @crunklord420 @fluffy
if you're not in academia why are you acting like a slave then!?!? you're telling me this ideology is self imposed and you're not even getting anything out of it? even worse

@crunklord420 @meowski @SystemSock @icedquinn You know he is not in academia, and never has been, because of his glowing opinion of it.

Nobody who actually has done science is unaware of how deeply flawed modern scholarship is. That is not to say it is no good at all, mind you. Just that it is as vulnerable to political pressure, nepotism, and fraud as is any other influential group.
@freekiwi
It gets interesting when freemo shuts up. Wish people just ignored him at this point
@crunklord420 @SystemSock @fluffy @freemo @icedquinn @meowski

@meowski

Of course not, there was never a point where I had a conversations with anyone where I was trying to assert a fact.

Literally the only time there was a disagreement in the thread it was a person who jumped in with "retard" and "homo" and immediately set the stage for me have no interest in engaging them. Why would I have have to present data or facts when I havent actually argued any points, the discussions I have have mostly been in agreement or about things neither side had data on so was speculative.

What discussion did I engage in in this thread that even needed data, cant recall one.

@SystemSock @icedquinn @crunklord420 @fluffy

@meowski

I dont particularly care if you call me one, it just means you have no value or worth in a discussion if you do. More your problem than mine.

@icedquinn @SystemSock @crunklord420 @fluffy

@freemo @icedquinn @SystemSock @crunklord420 @fluffy
alright whatever, but there was actually a topic in this thread. you just missed it cause you got defensive

@meowski @crunklord420 @SystemSock @icedquinn every time i see that guy in a thread he's having some meltdown and just being outright nasty.

and with all of the times it's happened... i have never even once seen someone defend him.
@meowski @SystemSock @crunklord420 @icedquinn I must have missed it.

Just saw a thread about academia and wanted to bitch about how many problems there are. Frankly, if I had noticed the guy was tagged in I wouldn't have responded. I've never gone away from an interaction with him and felt better for it.
