@curtis Yes those are a good place to start, really the only material we have so far. Keep in mind both are incomplete and still up for debate. But it does seem we are pretty close to a consensus.

@davoloid i still need a few more big instances before I make it official. I dont want there to be just a few big instances dominatting the system. But yea we are well on our way it seems.

As someone pointed out you should consider the #UFoI You can either join it outright or remain independent and adopt our code of Ethics.

We are new but we already have over 200K users joining when we kick off in the next few days. Its basically an alliance of instance admins who agree to be "good-actors" by adopting a minimal set of moderation ethics.

You have the advantage of being garunteed to get to federate with the rest of the UFoI

It is something I am explicitly placing in the bylaws.. Remember we do **not** defederate or ban servers who are bad actors within or without the UFoI... our stance is we garuntee federation within the UFoI but make no rules or expectations for defederating.

The fundemental principle here is a positive federation about ensuring connections, blocking and suspending is not a part of the UFoI on any level, bad acrtors just dont get garunteed federation anymore, thats all.

Well depends what you mean by that.. in short, no. You can just join, go about your business and answer to no one. If you dont follow the rules you might not get in or stay in, but there are no reprocusions other than not to be in the UFoI. So you really dont need to answer to anyone or change anything, just be a good actor as i am sure you are and not a problem, if someone thinks your a bad actor you just leave, no answering to anyone.

@dump_stack Hi. I'm trying to see what admins might be interested in being founding members of the UFoI (see attached link). Someone mentioned you might be interested? You can back out at any time, so no obligation if things go south. We just need to define who will be the founding members (we have a few already).

@voidabyss No, members must federate within the UFoI but they are welcome to federate outside the UFoI as they wish.

No you don't.. you have a right to leave anytime with no need to answer to anyone. So if that happens to be the case that you are called out and do not wish to go through the due process you can just leave. We have a rule in place that if you do the process is dropped and instances wont defederate or block you en masse.

The key to this is people can accurse you of something without talking about it, and going through due process... but as I said you can always just leave and avoid it all.

I am now compiling a list of all servers who may have an interest in joining the United Federation of Instances.

Quite a few instances have already signed up.

Please reach out to me, all servers of any size are welcome!

This is non binding, its just to get a preliminary list. You can withdrawl at any time and dont have to go through the application process. I just want to know what servers to reach out to once we begin kicking things off.

If you are a server admin please let me know **in DM** if you have an interest and I will add you to the (for now) private list. I want to only release the list once we have enough momentum so please respond in DM only.
