Thats like saying "fewer vaccines means fewer vaccine death", while technically true its also very poor logic. Sadly no, banning guns generally means more homicides overall.

Also who said anything about Canada. Sadly the body of the american data on this clearly disagrees with the assesment.

@protecttruth I am no fan of the right in general.. but we already know well from past bans on guns in america that it has had the unfortunate result of increasing homicides.. Not banning guns is the reason more people arent murdered.

Yes there is a problem that needs to be addressed with crime and homicies.. banning guns has never been shown to be the solution however, and only results in more deaths. Lets look for real, science-based solutions.

No but perhaps we should, especially since I have developed some software that meeds being described here... so I see a lot of room for colobaroation if thjey are interested.

### Serious questions about webhosting

Please boost.

I am looking for webhosting to play with a bunch of installations for exploring software development & coding ideas, not public interaction *at this time*.

Will.install Mastodon and Wordpress, plus likely Pleroma, Friendica, Matrix, Discourse & Git.

Very small data volume & storage, but multiple domains, websites & email addresses.

Could you help me with choosing dedicated/cloud/vpn and selecting a webhost. I would prefer dedicated if I can afford it.

I am familiar with Cpanel & PHP., and I have run WikiMedia & Wordpress sites, 10 years ago.

OR, if you are interested in similar ideas, we could make a hosting relationship.

@EubieDrew Its been a long time since I worked with the lists, integrated it years ago... off hand im not sure.. what do you mean by a "subscribe of an account to a list"?

@thor I'd love to see pictures of houses there and what they cost.

@helgek

It cant be that hard if my grandmother can do it... Its about as hard as email, and functionally quite similar.

@webmink

@webmink Depends entierly on the server what extent its isolated bubble extends to, if at all.

@webmink its a bit more than that. There is a huge section of the fediverse that is isolated and forces a degreee of lockin through huge server suspend lists. Aside from the isolation it locks you into the isolation since you cant transfer accounts outside their isolated bubble

@Albatross

If it were possible to convert trolls to decent people it would happen slowly over years. I doubt you'd ever notice it when it does happen since its such a slow process. That plus the fact that you probably arent likely to try and stick around long enough to see the results in the first place.

@copyme@mastodon.online

@Romaq Its a nice little toy to play with for sure.. doesnt really do well in comparison to more professional simulators of course. But the approach to visualization is still very useful in its own right.

@freemo So... a website that lets you build a circuit diagram and then simulates the circuits including oscilloscope output? That's freakin' crazy! My dad would have thought he died and gone to heaven. Except, well, he DID die, but he worked for Howard W. Sams and likely could see it coming someday.

Ah, the tools with which I would torment question asking curious children if we had them! Only I'd actually spend time with my kid and encourage finding and discovering answers. I see tools like this with the wonder of memories so long ago of my dad's tools to do this for real with a bread board.

A little (now improved) AGC circuit I played with (designed to be simple not the best :) )

I feel like the world stopped using "namby-pamby" as a word and I am not happy about this.

@kmic Facts. I must say in almost anywhere int he world the resteraunt service (in terms of attentiveness and promptness) is always miles behind the USA.

I get that.

I think an optimal solution is just to have an open forum on #Lemmy or something. Let peeps suggest instances to block, with reasons why, and let others vote on them accordingly.

I like that #UFOI forces evidence to be shared before an instances is included in the list, that alone makes it far better than #fediblock

I also spoke with @freemo regarding it for a peice I’m writing about it, the plan is for it to also serve as a framework so that anyone can create their own “federation” if that makes sense. The #UFOI isn’t intended to be a one stop shop for everyone to use to determine who to block.

@zleap

thats because QOTO had hashtag following feature years before vanilla mastodon. So we do it a bit differently (and with some extra features).. to follow hashtags its in your account preferences.

@kongakong @pomarede

@copyme@mastodon.online I agree with you about that completely

@trinsec

I think I know what might be causing this... if you want to use it seriously, and of you, I can put some time into fixing it.
