@bibliolater I have a few books with exemplars in them. But other than that no. I do however ask questions when i need help to a few experts I know.

@RhinosWorryMe @PaulSchleifer

Comparing it to the french resistance, something you stood a REALLY good chance of being murdered should you join it, is hardly comparable. One might expect if your not very likely to be murdered you stand a much better chance of siding with change.. and if you think YOU should be killing or using violence right now then you are already the problem.

@admitsWrongIfProven The fact that ben is Jewish, and generally race-politics types dont consider Jews white... so there is that.

Pretty sure white is pretty fluid for most of these people. When you start disagreeing with them you are white regardless of the reality.

@admitsWrongIfProven I think Ben Shipiro complained about it, which i guess is the same as "all middle age white men" or something.

Three facts:

1) I havent seen the barbie move

2) My feed is filled with people claiming white middle age men are outraged by the movie

3) I havent seen a single white middle aged man in my feed mention the movie even once.

I mean even as a trans person, I don't feel like it's particularly important to do a blanket ban on an entire, heterogenous organization just because one arm does a transphobia. I've been kinda bristling lately about how reactive the fediverse is sometimes, to the point of harassing others (I'm sure defederation isn't the only thing the #BBC will experience today).

At the same time: it's important, as part of the fediverse experiment, to detach ourselves from wanting to make that line go "up and to the right".

I feel like the fediverse has the ability to allow for both "let's grow a lot!" people, as well as people who prefer more limited, cozy, proactively safe communities.

I think talking about it in terms of what "the fediverse" should do is the wrong way to go about it: I think we need tools/instances/software to enable both. I think this is possible, but our tooling just plain ain't there yet.

@shuttersparks Same here, I love it, have little natural ability, but I am doing good relative to where I started, thats all that matters.

@rmerriam There does not appear to be a group by that name on chirp. If there was it would show herE:

chirp.social/@DiscussCPlusPlus

@freemo sounds a lot like the culture i encountered when trying to interact with the Pleroma dev team, minus the blocking. people with all the maturity of a 12 year old.

@thor Yea that group is basically immature on the opposite end of the spectrum, same nonsense, different narrative.

There certainly is no lack of immaturity around these parts.

@thor Its the lack of communication that is the issue. When you reach out to see what the problem is and address it they get offended you contacted them, its insane.

That said Calkey/firefish is particularly abusive and dishonest as things go... They fabricate reasons to block and the guy who runs it is very immature.

@rmerriam You have to use a group server for that, we support the group servers with special handling but the group itself is on the group server of choice. You can explore groups from the menu and see the list of various servers that have groups.

WOOT! My APRS-IS server is up and running... now to get the rest of the software up!

I assume you get why it's not a nice thing to say that "slavery helped black people in some ways" but I think some people miss why this particular idea is *exceptionally* racist.

One of the main arguments to justify slavery was that it "civilized" black people by making us Christian & teaching us obedience to our "betters." Black people were "lucky" or "better off" as slaves.

It assumes that when people were enslaved they had no skills, nothing to offer, that they were basically animals.

@futurebird

Saying "Slavery helped black people" sounds like saying "Rapists help women with their self-esteem".... The absurdity of such a statement is beyond me.
