I am certain that 100% of people under 40 who know the meaning of the word loquacious only know it because they watched Harry Potter.
@AmpBenzScientist It is a universal physical law of the universe.
If we ever meet aliens I garuntee you their wise men are also random aliens peekling alien apples by alien lakes.
@AmpBenzScientist To celebrate Rosa Parks day we are going to make all black people sit on the back of the bus... lol that should go down wonderfully :)
Wrong, if you tried to tax billionairs to that extent youd quickly find the money disapears.. when you abusively tax the greatest wealth creators int he world you only stop wealth generation. So you quickly find you have no wealth to tax as you destroyed its generation through excessive taxation.
There is a proper levelof taxes, too low is unfair, too high is unfair. Taxes are already abusively unfair, our issue is we waste the vast amount of that money on military. Fix that first then we can discuss more taxes... makes no sense to give more taxes to an entity that already wastes virtually everything they get on murder.
Im all for handing out free guns to the homeless... not sure it will solve any problems but it will certainly piss off the liberals, and that alone is worth it :)
20/10 vision would mean quite horrible near sightedness.
While there is such a thing as objectively bad vision (such as an astigma) when it comes to normal shaped lenses that are out of focus there really is no such thing as "better and worse"... those kids with 20/10 vision would be completely unable to use my computer at the resoution I use.
I use QHD/UHD monitors at full resolution with no zoom. Virtually every normal sighted person says "how can you see that" to which I reply "rather easily".
You can only shift the natural focal point, it is never an improvement it is a tradeoff every time.
It seems like a rather exagerated test to be honest... I mean few things would survive that yet would be perfectly fine on an otherwise normal railway trip..
Im guessing it was more a safety test or something?
@icedquinn Not at all, fermis parodox relies on the vastness of the **observable** universe. It is such that no matter how conservative the values you put in, within what feels like reason, you will still get a high chance of life.
However in fermi's paradox you can reverse the equation and find the probabilities needed to ensure the equation shows no life, they just require a very very low ratio. But yea there is a threshold in fermi's paradox where "if life is less likely than this number then life likely wouldnt exis"
The key difference here is now we are thinking about the whole (non-observable) universe and working up. The idea that **any** probability garuntees life, and that from that life's perspective there would be an empty **observable** universe is very much a departure from fermis paradox.
The boltzman brain idea had me realize something important... in any infinite universe where life is possible, however unlikely, **must** have life in it.
Add in limitations on light speed and if that life is sufficiently rare than all instances of life would be unable to observe any other instance of life.
It yused to. It isnt up right now because i have not had time to repair the database.
In fact, I was the first one to implement groups on the fedi (and quite a few other features :))
Right we are talking 1950s 60s and 70s. It was at its height in the early 1960s
That aside, even if you compare to a brick and mortar, a modern day thermostat has more wealth in it than an entire 1950s home.
They were called prefab homes. Fully made at a factory and just moved in place and plopped down. Very cheap, popular from the early 1960s onward, and fell apart very easily.

People also bought much smaller and cheaper homes for a period there. The whole "pre-built" home craze was around that time and they didnt quite last sadly.
I have done a fuck ton of open source stuff, but only a small fraction directly makes me money.

That said I've probably done as much work or more that is proprietary, probably more. I dont feel bad, I feel there should be a mix of both in the world.
Even now as I am spinning up my new company (we recently got funding) I am trying to decide the balance between the two.
