Complaining about BigTech also advertises their name over and over... we can inadvertantly help advertise and spread bad news that they want spreading if it's true "Any news is good news" for bigtech......
So yes BigTech is doing bad but at the same time remember not to advertise their name too much like a reproduction speaker / copycat tannoy system!
It's a hard balance but perhaps I mean not being stuck in complaining mode and trying to find a positive way or completely different route without them....
We do feel things close to us so I get the knee-jerking feeling but I feel we have to move on to do our own things and even copy what they do but more in our own field of usage and safely, more for us than them.
Think speaking about things on a subliminal type of level when you're shouting out the oppressors name continually, and if it begins with G...F...A (or the other A) then consider not using them AT ALL or somehow not in a blaming / powerless way! We need to do xyz
(I think this sound right but I'm considering I might to improve this solution not to act as lower than them etc)
Because complaining includes a % of advertising or spreading that is why I suggest double-checking it
(especially if they want that as advertising and release bad news to increase awareness for products or before new releases so everybody hears about it)
Overall it's time for solutions to be promoted (your own included) and for those to be in the foreground and just using that...
and leaving those brand names behind!

@barefootstache
Think that is obvious
- from back in the days Google was stand out most powerful / rewarding etc etc (not knowing Google's model we used it like 'they' the people now, it's totally the same phase for them, maybe even longer as they are into computers less)
- Having 1 word is often better / snappier than many or a sentence, a kinda euphemism or fun shortening (and was added to dictionary so it is a word)
- Merging the company name and ing makes Googling quite a clever all-in-one adjective that we became used to. Again language + merging meanings.
- because people still use it despite knowing danger and their expectation levels / luxury cannot be lowered trying and missing with search elsewhere (I take my own evidence a bit but duse the net less to balance expectation) so with less invasive, less syndicated (etc), less resourceful types of engines people are happy someone else does the $hitty work
Summary
- lots of ammunition above even at medium strength
- people of 'our calibre' of will and ability and know-how STILL use the word or engine although hard to measure and most of this is probably a type fading (hopefully) of both spoken or acted out habits. Even in my own endeavours there are people like (&^^! who say to me here I'm against google/youtube completely "but to reach the masses" (paraphrase) I use the google/youtube link (instead of invidious) to get the nice auto-embedded thumbnails to come up in my post which doesn't in my posts on xyz platforms.
Convenience. Speed. Presentation.
Just some of the reasoning why people can't go back or not willing to 'take the hit' themselves in how good things are AND ACCEPT LESS.
P.S -------------------
- Never heard 'torching' the web which shows how new that is if I don't know about the phrase or remember.
- Never heard "searXng" the web, looks a bit porn related written down and not sure how I would say it. Feel free to educate / explain that.
Just recently added that last one and works, even before the fuckfuckgo business though didn't read into it that much as can switch without feeling too betrayed or whatever happens with next business model etc. It's to be expected with business and therefore reducing tech and increasing personal contact for me is the way.
> Searx (/sɜːrks/; stylized as searX) is a free and open-source metasearch engine
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Searx
Where as searXng is a fork of the prior
> SearXNG is a free internet metasearch engine which aggregates results from more than 70 search services. Users are neither tracked nor profiled. Additionally, SearXNG can be used over Tor for online anonymity.

Torch is one of the tor search engines.
> Torch or TorSearch is the best search engine for the hidden part of the internet. They’re also the oldest and longest running search engine on Tor. Torch claims to have over one billion dark net pages indexed. They also don’t censor search results or track what you search for. No logs are kept, so there is no record of your searches. They also don’t use any tracking or analytics code for the sake of privacy.

@freeschool one thing that Big-Tech inadvertently put into our vocab is the word "googling", which indirectly is a marketing ploy to use Google. Why not just use the "search the web"?
Or use specific search engine like searx or torch... so "searXng" or "torching" the web.
