But then how clever is it to always start your cooking on the lowest heat or lowest flame knowing of such a possibility and opting for the lower sides of heat and temperature... and less damage!

Slow cooking has it's advantages
:) I feel STUPID but SMART. The latter holding more weight here as I got a lot done today :) and I have *warm* food... rather than burnt! :)

@keddie The email solution seems easy, just use a whitelist only instead of trying to filter or analyse anything and everything... just add email addresses as you go with people you know are 100% not spam ! Grow from there

Same topic about emails is what I am now looking at seriously and talking to people about...

Have you ever had a young person working with you?
Notice that some want to keep forever working or some you are tempted to push them into doing more and work?
There is a natural/normal sense of getting most out of someone and even robbing them / cheating physics in order to achieve something (getting shit done)

That's basically life with our rulers right now who want us basically just to work for them 24/7 and pay for sleeping / accommodation / water etc !

And then they find ways for those that don't want to work for bad leadership or uninteresting monotonous work.

Viva La Evolution !

Personal Story / Anecdote

A 20-30 year old visited for a few days and he said he never heard of such things I mentioned... like a lot. About banks, about business, extraction lines... Most was in such agreeable simplicity (it helped he was also already decided to change his life and give up studies somewhat before out meeting and his travels)...

I was actually more shocked than him how isolated children must be or just how far in study mode they must be most their life that life has past somewhat - but I guess we are oblivious or ambivalent when younger and in 30's realise WTF and take charge a bit more...

But taking advantage of the new is what I don't like despite encouragement needed (not force or passive aggressive monetary stuff / student loan debts etc).

Any students / post-grads welcome to visit... while you're still young (or old!)

Friendship inevitably involves feelings.

Usually because you have more scenarios with friends, soul mates, partners etc or have to go deeper that might test you or encourage new ground for discovering each others feelings / preferences / awareness etc).

(imagine a game map for the first time which is dark until you go there and realise what that part of the friendship is about and even learning together what you're not sure of about that part of the map).

The pain of being friends is a positive opportunity of learning more (about each other, the scenario etc).

Being distance friends might seem 'less painful' but is not further in learning or finding those that can deal with imperfection and even make it fit perfectly between 2 or more persons.

Why is SELF-HOSTING EMAIL AND SPAM such a problem?

How about setting up white-list almost exclusively instead of spam protection and clever filtering?

(so no need for spam protection if only expecting what you add as 'ok' on incoming whitelist...)

- just people you know are added manually to list as you start emailing them and adding-as-you-go
- and never expecting email from anywhere else

+ even a temporary 'Allow All' switch if really needed and for subscribing / registering to places online...

and then switch back to 'Block All but Whitelist' (or equivalent option) when done

What do you think ?

(especially as a 2nd more-private account could be easier rather than filtering etc!)

Welcome to modern tech !

Tech does plenty of things you don't see !

People are using it increasingly to do faster things and it's getting more out of your control and you get less options that respect you.

Tech = Take it of leave it ultimatum (almost) as we see with 'free' resources that need free self-abuse or get nothing... so pay for all of it yourself or go to google/amazon 'free' space!)

As tech *and people behind it* progress it become more of a -
Sad but natural with all the tools that it is given/sold and then restricted / held against you
(paper, cameras, computer = evidence / surveillance)

A natural tech life-cycle perhaps from AH WOW to OH NO,,, PLEASE NO I HAVE CHILDREN...!

Because in the hands of humans dictating tech's design and direction this bound happen after the honeymoon or beautiful wonderful discovery stage... and then into the over-use and overkill stage like warplanes and tank made everywhere.

ABOUT GAMES:
I find the game saves and all that side is a waste of time / killing time... so I appreciate a video about it but playing it ? No...
STOP!... Get that phase over and out... get to the real games and people interaction...

I think that's the short version of my advice, pardon my brevity... I wish that younger generations found more worthy games in fediverse interactions... rather than empty solo games or multiplayer solo games.

I guess people are the real work / game that is needed to happen more often than playing games...

Humans are not perfect but have advantages of being less controlled as computers / media (the brain carries a lot and has it's own memory, storage, autonomous action etc...).

Computers etc should only assist perhaps and loop back to people... send some messages on Mastodon and then get chatting... that's all until it's anything better elsewhere !

Differences in Defending Yourself and Defending others (Psychology)

"I will defend others to the death, but for my self I might let bullying happen or be treated badly". (so for others defend but not defend self half as much)

A lady told me this, that for others she'd defend or go the extra 10miles (even unnecessarily) but not stand up for herself / take being spoken to badly.

For me this taps into a regularity I see with people (combination of low self-esteem / high insecurity but for others wanting to please / be looked well upon so works differently in different situations)

Something about human nature in that; pleasing others but then not knowing how to command one's own ship / being afraid of standing up and potentially being in a fight about one's self-respect (which a female may feel the lesser for many physical and psychological reasons)...

Females mostly (or males inversely can think they can do things but it's false self-esteem / overkill).

Also in terms of attack and defence people are often quick to defend others (correctly and incorrectly) but for themself might go into self-doubt or depression, worry etc. This more person combat I think creates adrenalin and nervousness whereas externalising it or repenting others moral is comparably easy.
