@freemo @modrobert
I believe you, but it blended into what I think is a touch of 'people answering what they want' and well this isn't your thing perhaps (perhaps) otherwise you could do it later or whatever that motivation and will does to people who say something but can do it / want to do it.

So anyway it's my call and I think I have see enough (without it going under any critical bar, it's all good). Everyone is into more this or more that... some can do the incremental way (do 5mins per line) else the I'm busy / I have a lot to do stuff... is forever the case until people *make it their life / business to address things*
So that's the non-accepting part of me- if it was excessive diver stuff or something similar you'd not even think about time or it's be exciting that any spare moment you could do it even with page up line by line...
But diving for you is probably not like the people evolution is for me...
so reality (back to people in general) is if you hit a nerve or if there is a good topic wohoo suddenly people are free posting like there isn't a tomorrow |:>

But again I believe you man and well your ability to say simply how it for yourself is outstanding.
Can't say much more about that!

ANECDOTE
I was volunteering on a farm - ended up staying for a few months.
I noticed the farmer was constantly doing short loops or easier stuff (or stuff that wasn't encouraging problems, a bit like facing problems in real life perhaps, why do it and feel bad or risk breaking something already broken? Why put yourself through that?
So I drew him a diagram - not sure if I still have or even if it's correct from memory but the main thing is avoiding long-term totally (or more often) = bad work (for a farmer and for human)
So in this case with freemo he's doing a lot so I trust he'll cover it but for others they are avoiding the long work or stuff to repair from their feelings or not accepting "it needs doing" or "will get worse" or "can be repair, even if we find out it can't".
For that farmer I made everything ship shape with being to strict or inflexible to 'just leave it' also... but I left the couple as they couldn't do the people work... fantastic places but still lack of essential people development which is / should be the permaculture of life... and for some like me it's unavoidable or avoidable until the worst possible moment you wished you talked about things earlier.

end of anecdote

@jonny
I think it can't be used for good when it's used by pure-profit people.

If profit only is the main factor and those only seeking to do more 'efficient' job in that (i.e get more tax or more production)... then it's no use.
It might help give an example also as to which perspective or who you might mean if I don't have it quite right.
If it's from perspective of "we the people" or any ideal humans things, then none of increments are ever good, they just add/speed things up/multiply more tools on their side in an already bad chess game where their other pieces and tools also make things inflexible to any non-profit change.

@jonny hi, just a check here on the meaning of "capital" -> capital city? centre? politically where government is?
(perhaps all these things?)

And are you asking
- how AI can be good for capital's self?
- how can that perception (capital's perception I think you mean?) and the legal gray area it exists in be exploited? (like against them or against people?)

@freeschool@qoto.org

only if Google respects it?

Correct, they can still crawl unless your instance is actively blocking the crawlers. And then you have to hope you're blocking all of them properly, which can be difficult.

It would be good if you add >

I am doing that, I've attached a screenshot on how it looks for me. This is a potential downside of Fediverse, just as email, people use different clients, and thus things render differently. With email clients its usually much easier to configure it to display things in a way you like, though!

Truth has many angles or sometimes and yes even confirming it can feel risky even if it's obvious (someone might steer it into something else like courts do when quoting someone that they said x = ok and twist it)

Things can be said in many ways, so this comes into it when language also comes into with it's many things that can be said in many ways (words mean many things also). These things + variations = a big soup of thought!.... which might be representing a culture or manufacturing back then and obviously it's not the only thing good also... I think it's nice to ask and get the feelings on it, sometimes there are good points or historical things to consider.

The lack of SMTP used to feel like a deal breaker (because it was all I knew) but notifications can be received with an app/application, so while SMPT preferred the notification is actually a decent replacement
(though it locks people in somewhat)

Like we have for Mastodon we are not needing SMTP as much as we might think)

Would 'German efficiency' as a description offend you if it is meant as a compliment to German (or any cultures) previous engineering success and cultural aspect of getting things done while also meaning in a human concept 'cutting out' of the more human forms of things like emotional intelligence, empathy, more-human / non-engineering forms of consideration?

@adam
Wow I've heard people say email is a problem or spam is this and that... we should talk.

A few ideas pasted below but the above the main point if you don't like reading long writing is above so giving options here.

A question to start if you don't mind...

I was wondering if you would entertain providing the more trusted Mastodon people an email account? Just a handful, would be for just personal chatting rather than hinging it critically...

It's for a while been a good idea since the increase in surveillance means to actually consider to nip things in the bud / solve this snooping from root (by offering a small email service to a few people already here) then at least they can have a 2nd email much less corporate (my admins use gmail together which I think is criminal but this is just for me now! Or for Qoto qoto.org/about/more)

I was thinking even a whitelist or manually entered list of whose allowed as incoming mail would nearly eliminate need for spam analysis and stick to our known peer only... so rejecting all but whitelist)

Either way... Non-GMail could really lock Google out of our comms... (even Mastodon normal alerts get copied by default sometimes for all these alerts and info!).

Other notes:
-------------
Email is the "root of evils" (is not far wrong) and leads to
- Classic 'espionage' (leaking your own data)
- Mapping movements by 3rd party + $haring with government(s0
- American interference (extraditing people / forcing their ambiguous laws... which users agree to doh!)
- etc etc

Less 3rd party records provides future-proofing (keeping out of hands of Google who is going to do who-knows-what next in the future).

Discourse might have support for being used in "mailing list mode" (user setting) where you configure to receive emails for certain categories and can send emails to start a topic.
This will require email to be properly configured in discourse.
And it appears, that existing mailing lists can be imported to discourse, so if done properly, it might not be too detrimental for existing workflows (i assume).

@petros
So the first thought! About the not touching Mastodon, as you say, is this related to the length restrictions and connected to why other things "allow me to express my thoughts full-size."

Because we have almost unlimited length here on this server - it's simply Mastodon... customized!

qoto.org/about/more

So why I'm asking about that is, if it's the only thing or main thing then consider Mastodon suddenly amazing again :)

@petros
Good to find someone that can write long posts or explain something more-human or related to communication.

A shortage of writers like this (perhaps) currently!

If anyone see's someone talking longer and has focus like this please send me a link as it often clears things up nicely. (Mastodon only)
Thanks

P.S TL;Dr people lose out accordingly what can set things straight for themself or others.

The last analogy that I used and seemed to work was this:
qoto.org/@freeschool/108998056

@freeschool yeah I think the filter of what the random people I am following here are talking about is usually pretty broad and I get a large swath of different topics. And then end up going and doing research into specific things after I read something that peaks my interest

@liaizon
ok was just about to hit enter and realised the new post appended!
So I was thinking ditto as a kind of purification of sorts by limiting media sources ( not looking at the mainstream for me also) because of the repetition or extremity people go to to get eyeballs on sites / wanted people to stick to same channel for stats etc... a show basically

and then through these more Masto-channels we funnel or find all that but with a bit more logic or re-interpretted stuff clearing out cobwebs tempted by older styles of media that are like... "wow look at this new xyz" or "take a look... you won't guess their plans they have next and do tell us what you think so we can relay that back to them"

A lot more safe here with less trackers and better tech!

The appended post almost made it seem totally different but thought I'd send my almost-finished post anyway but yes cool to hear...and that area of the world must be even harder to know what to believe or get the right story...
